The Curse of the Cat People, a review by addicted2dvdTitle: The Curse of the Cat People Year: 1944 Director: Gunther V. Fritsch, Robert Wise Rating: NR Length: 70 Min. Video: Full Frame 1.33:1 Audio: English: Dolby Digital Mono, Commentary: Dolby Digital Stereo Subtitles: English, French, Spanish Stars: Simone Simon Kent Smith Jane Randolph Ann Carter Plot: Simon returns in The Curse of the Cat People, a sequel in title and a landmark study of a troubled child in fact. Robert Wise makes his directing debut, co-helming a gothic-laced mix of fantasy and fright so astute it was used in college psychology classes. Extras: Scene Access Audio Commentary Trailers Closed Captioned My Thoughts: This really is just a sequel in name only. The story itself had nothing to do with the first one... other then having a couple of the same characters. Definitely not what I was expecting when I bought it... but thankfully I was warned ahead of time and went in expecting it. And you know... I really enjoyed it. Just as much as I did the first one. The story is interesting... the time spent watching it just flew by. While I may have preferred a more straight forward sequel, I am glad I have this in my collection... and must say... give it a chance. As long as you go in knowing that this has extremely little to do with the first part I think you will like it. And once again... that Simone Simon is adorable... I just wish she had a bigger part in this on. I mean she has a nice sized part but took a while for you to see her for the first time. She isn't really in the beginning of the movie. My Rating: Out of a Possible 5 (From What Movies I Been Watching on November 11th, 2009) All-Star Superman, a review by addicted2dvdTitle: All-Star Superman Year: 2011 Director: Sam Liu Rating: PG Length: 77 Min. Video: Widescreen Audio: English: Dolby Digital: 5.1, French: Dolby Digital: 5.1, Spanish: Dolby Digital: 2-Channel Stereo Subtitles: English Stars: James Denton Christina Hendricks Anthony LaPaglia Edward Asner Obba Babatunde Steve Blum Plot: Fueled by hatred and jealousy, Lex Luthor masterminds an elaborate plot to kill the Man of Steel - and it works. Poisoned by solar radiation, Superman is dying. With weeks to live, he fulfills his life's dreams - especially revealing his true identity to Lois Lane - until Luthor proclaims his ultimate plan to control the world with no alien hero to stop him. Powers fading, Superman engages in a spectacular deadly battle with Luthor that could truly trigger the end of Earth's Greatest Protector. This startling and gripping DC Universe animated original movie stars the voice talents of James Denton, Anthony LaPaglia, Christine Hendricks and Ed Asner. Extras: Bonus Trailers Featurettes My Thoughts: As much as I love animated superhero movies... this is the first time I have seen this one. While I sit here typing this review I am still not completely sure how I feel about the ending. But over all I really enjoyed this movie. One thing I like is this actually works for my birthday marathons as well... as a decent sized part of this movie has Superman giving Lois the same superpowers he has for 24 hours for her birthday. Anyway... as I said... I enjoyed this one... glad I finally got around to watching it. If you are a fan of the animated Superhero movies I think you will enjoy this one as well. My Rating: Out of a Possible 5 (From The Movies From Within My Lifetime on May 22nd, 2011) Dean Martin & Jerry Lewis, a review by addicted2dvd
Stars: Dean Martin Jerry Lewis Burt Lancaster Rosemary Clooney The Skylarks Sidney Sillman Extras:
My Thoughts: I felt like a little classic television so I decided to pop in one of my Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis Show DVDs. This show was also known as The Colgate Comedy Hour. And it definitely had some laughs in it. But it also has quite a bit of music in it as well. A little too much for my taste. But that is ok... because there is enough good comedy in it to still make it worth watching for me. Being on one of those public domain releases I really wasn't expecting much quality wise... but I was pleasantly surprised. There was a few problems here and there... but for the most part it was more then watchable. My Rating: Out of a Possible 5 (From Addicted2dvd's Random TV Series Watched on June 11th, 2011) |
