The Young Graduates, a review by Jimmy

MOVIE / DVD INFO:

Title: The Young Graduates (1971)

Genre: Drive-in
Director: Robert Anderson
Rating: PG
Length: 1h39
Video: Widescreen
Audio: English
Subtitles: None

Stars:
Patricia Wymer
Tom Stewart
Gary Rist
Bruno Kirby
Marly Holiday

Plot:
Reflecting the humor and problems of the "love generation," this is the story of high-school graduates, who, eager to grow up and experience life, find themselves involved in adventures they'd rather live without. Starring Patricia Wymer (The Babysitter), Dennis Christopher (Breaking Away) and Bruno Kirby (City Slickers).

My Thoughts:
I've decided to watch some of the movies stuck in my unwatch case for quite some time. This film is from the vol #4 of the BCI Drive-in cult classic that I got in february last year and is now OOP since BCI doesn't exist anymore. I can't say it's the best film ever made or the acting is great (but Bruno Kirby for his first film is quite good), but this film had some charm. It's a drive-in free for all... You got the girl just turned 18 who had an adventure with her teacher, the hippies talk (to be honest sometimes I had no idea what they were talking about), the pool fight, the graduation party, the biker gang, a little bit of innocent nudity, a great theme song and it's a cautionnary tales (hitchiking is dangerous).

This film alone worth the price of the set and it's a good news after all the bad one included in the After Dark thriller set. The restoration job is surprisingly good for a budget release, in fact it's more than good since the print had no defect at all...

The Monster Squad , a review by Dragonfire

The Monster Squad

You know who to call when you have ghosts, but who do you call about monsters? Whether it's a bat in your belfry or a mummy in your microwave, THE MONSTER SQUAD ain't afraid of no ghouls!

Count Dracula has until midnight to retrieve an ancient amulet that will give him final control over the delicate balance between good and evil in the world. To help him, the creepy count calls on some old friends: the weird Wolfman, grotesque Gill-Man, mildewed Mummy and freaky Frankenstein. As the ghoulish group gets closer to the amulet, it's up to THE MONSTER SQUAD, headquartered in the local tree house, to pool its questionable resources and stop the monster mayhem!

My Thoughts

This is a fun, entertaining movie that works well for families.  I saw the DVD in Walmart a few years and I read some reviews around the same time - I believe one was from Pete too - and I decided that the movie sounded entertaining and I decided to pick it up.  I'm really glad I did.  It is a really fun monster movie.  I do see things in the movie that I think indicates that the movie was inspired by the classic monster movies.  I like this take on those characters.  Several things that happen are a bit silly, but they end up working well for what is going on.

This one is definitely worth watching.

I have written about this one here before.  I did get a review posted on Epinions two years ago.

The One Where It All Began: The Pilot Marathon, a review by DJ Doena

ER

What's the show about?
The ER is the Emergency Room of the Cook County Hospital in Chicage, Illinois. We follow the work and the private lives of the medical students, interns, residents and nurses who work at this oftern very chaotic place.

"24 Hours"
Dr. Greene is half-way through his shift when a building collapses and the ER has many incoming casualties. After hours of work handling this he has an appointment in a private practise. The third-year student John Carter has his first day. And then happens the inconceivable...

My Opinion
For me it's the show about John Carter. The show started when he started there and I had always the impression he was more focussed on than any other character. And I really like Carter. I've only watched the first 7 seasons so far but I know there are currently 14. But we'll have to see how long it will keep my interest, especially with most of the original crew having left in the last seasons or leaving over the coming seasons.
