Stars:
Sigourney Weaver as The Director
Kristen Connolly as Dana
Chris Hemsworth as Curt
Anna Hutchison as Jules
Fran Kranz as Marty

Plot:
Five friends go to a remote cabin in the woods. Bad things happen. If you think you know this story, think again. From fan favourites Joss Whedon (The Avengers Assemble, TVs Buffy: The Vampire Slayer) and Drew Goddard (Cloverfield) comes THE CABIN IN THE WOODS, a mind blowing horror film that turns the genre inside out.

Produced by Whedon and directed by Goddard from a script by both, the film stars Kristen Connolly, Chris Hemsworth (The Avengers Assemble), Anna Hutchison, Fran Kranz (Tvs Dollhouse), Jesse Williams (TVs Grey Anantomy), Richard Jenkins (Let Me In) and Bradley Whitford (TVs The West Wing).

Awards:
Nominated:
Broadcast Film Critics Association Awards (2012)  Best Sci-Fi/Horro Movie

Extras:
  • Commentary
  • Featurettes
  • Picture-in-picture
  • Scene Access

My Thoughts:
I really wanted to like this movie. I had high expectations for it. It is written by Joss Whedon and I often read that is quite a game changer. But I found it quite a standard horror movie fare. Which I am not much of a fan of.

Teen Wolf, a review by addicted2dvd

Teen Wolf
What's a high school kid got to do to be popular? Just let down his hair and howl! Starring Michael J. Fox ('Back to the Future') 'Teen Wolf' is an outrageous comedy about a shy teenager with more than a changing voice to contend with... he's a budding young werewolf! And when his new-found powers help him score at basketball - and with the popular girls - he has some pretty hairy decisions to make.

My Thoughts:
OK... lets face it... Teen Wolf is far from award winning entertainment. But what it is... is good cheesy fun. Something to watch when you just want to sit back and enjoy. It is a real twist on the coming of age story. I think the whole werewolf idea is why I enjoy it so much... I definitely enjoy the monster movies... whether you can classify them as horror or not.

My Rating:
Out of a Possible 5

Pilot Season 2014-15, a review by DJ Doena

Silicon Valley

Silicon Valley @ Wikipedia
Silicon Valley @ IMDb

Synopsis: Unlike AMC's Halt and Catch Fire, HBO chose to do a comedy based on today's Silicon Valley.
While working at a Google-like company and living in a start-up incubator, Richard almost accidentally develops a new super-compressing, lossless audio algorithm.
And now he has to make a choice: Sell it to his employer for a fixed sum and be done with it or go with an investor and create his own success story.

My Opinion: Unlike The Big Bang Theory this is not a laugh track comedy and it doesn't expect you to laugh or even just smile after every sentence.
The characters are funny just the way they are and I really enjoyed this whole first season.

Interesting side note: The Weissman score which is used on the show like a scoreboard of the home vs. guest team was developed just for this show. But it was developed by actual computer scientists at Stanford University and is currently adapted for the real world.

Gavin Belson: "It's weird. They always travel in groups of five. These programmers, there's always a tall skinny white guy, a short skinny Asian guy, fat guy with a ponytail, some guy with crazy facial hair and then an East Indian guy. It's like they trade guys until they all have the right group."
