The Ex, a review by Rich

Title: The Ex

Runtime:89
Certificate:12
Year:2007
Genres:Romance, Comedy

Plot:Two of TV's funniest and most popular comic actors, Zach Braff (Scrubs) and Jason Bateman (Arrested Development) take no prisoners as they fight it out for the love of Sofia (Amanda Peet). Tom Reilly (Braff) and his wife Sofia (Peet) have just had a baby and when Sofia, the breadwinner, decides to be a stay-at-home mum, it's all change. They move out of the city, back to Sofia's hometown where Tom is offered a job at the firm run by his father-in-law (the legendary Charles Grodin). Everything seems to be fitting nicely into place until Chip (Bateman), Sofia's ex boyfriend, local hero and all-round wonder-boy is appointed as Tom's manager. Chip's flame for Sofia still burns brightly and he will stop at nothing to see Tom undermined, humiliated and made a fool of in order to win back his ex...

My Review:
Lightweight comedy, but with a certain charm and originality that keeps you interested until the end.
Amanda Peet is gorgeous as the wife/mother, but both Bateman and Braff fail to make the most of their lead opportunities.
There are a few laugh out loud moments, but the biggest negative of this film is the script, it just isn't funny enough through the movie, and is a bit of a lost opportunity.
In fact the funniest part of the film is the outtakes which run with the credits, and are definately worth watching.

Swamp Thing, a review by addicted2dvd

Swamp Thing
Swamp Thing is the perfect blend of thrills, chills, "winsome humor" (Roger Ebert) and amazing special effects from master of horror Wes Craven.

Deep in the Florida everglades, a brilliant scientist, Dr. Alec Holland (Ray Wise), and a sexy government agent, Alice Cable (Adrienne Barbeau), have developed a secret formula that could end world hunger. Little do they know, however, that their arch nemesis, Arcane (Louis Jourdan), is plotting to steal the serum for his own selfish schemes. Looting the lab and kidnapping Cable, Arcane douses Holland with the chemicals and leaves him for dead. Mutated by his own formula, Holland becomes "Swamp Thing" - a half-human / half-plant superhero who will stop at nothing to rescue Cable and defeat Arcane...even if it costs him his life!

My Thoughts:
This is a movie I have seen many years ago. Maybe about 20 years ago. About the only thing I remembered is that at the time I enjoyed it. And I still did enjoy it... only not as much as I remember I did when I was in my early teens. I don't know if Swamp Thing was a comic book before it was a movie or not.. but it definitely has that comic book movie feel to it. I am actually kind of surprised this movie was written by Wes Craven as it doesn't have the feel of the movies that I relate with his work. So I guess what it boils down to for me is that it is a good movie... just not a great movie.

My Rating:
Out of a Possible 5

"Due South" marathon, a review by addicted2dvd

The Man Who Knew Too Little
This one is basically just an average episode. I have seen several better but then again I have seen a few that were worse. The guy they were transporting back to Canada looked familiar to me... but after looking him up he wasn't anyone I am familiar with. Just had one of those faces I guess.
