Winner of a Jury Prize at the 2001 Cannes Film Festival, KANDAHAR is an epic tale of hope and courage, inspired by the true story of a woman's attempt to enter Afghanistan.

Nafas, an Afghan-born Canadian journalist, returns to her homeland in a desperate attempt to reach her sister. Overcome with grief after being injured by a landmine and her despair over the Taliban's systemic oppression of women, she had vowed that she will commit suicide at the time of the next solar eclipse, only three days away.

Clothed in the traditional head-to-toe burka, and posing as a subservient wife, Nafas' odyssey takes her across a dramatic desert landscape, where she encounters bandits, corpse-robbers, marooned exiles, overwhelmed Red Cross workers, hordes of land-mine victims, and finally a wedding procession that brings her within eyeshot of Kandahar.

My Thoughts:
I picked this one  because today (July 24th) is Lynda Carter's 59th birthday. And she has a somewhat small (a few scenes) part in this movie. I enjoyed this one. It is a pure fun show. Definitely not one you want to think too much about. But fun for leave your brain at the door pop-corn type movie. my favorite line in the movie goes to Lynda Carter when as the principle she is punishing the villains and says...  "There's nothing more I can do... I'm not Wonder Woman."  I know... a bit cheesy and definitely obvious... but I liked it.

My Rating:
Out of a Possible 5

The One Where It All Began: The Pilot Marathon, a review by DJ Doena

Scrubs

What's the show about?
The staff of the Sacred Hearts Hospital is not like other hospital staffs. The show is told from Dr. John "J.D." Dorian's point of view but includes the lives of then medical school buddy now surgeon Dr. Turk, Dr. Elliot and other doctors, nurses and even the janitor of the hospital.

"My First Day"
First day at the Sacred Hearts teaching hospital. J.D. is nervous but the he meets his new co-worker, Dr. Elliot and everything seems to turn upwards. He also believes to have found a mentor in the form of the Chief of Medicine, Dr. Kelso. If it weren't for the attending, Dr. Cox and the janitor everything would be fine.

My Opinion
There's one German TV station (Pro 7) that could easily be called Scrubs TV. Whenever they cancel another program or don't know what else to send, they air another re-run of Scrubs. I watched a few episodes but couldn't really get into. But a friend of mine (the same one who suggested Friends) told me that I should start at the beginning and he was not wrong. I had a better connection to the characters when watching the first disc but I still don't know whether I will buy further seasons. Time will tell. But what I really like is that the authors didn't forget that it played in a hospital and that (not unlike M*A*S*H) they they also showed what it's about to be a doctor.
