Around the World in 80 Days (1956), a review by Rich

Final rush through England...

Title: Around the World in 80 Days

Runtime:175
Certificate:U
Year:1956
Genres:Adventure, Family

Plot:An imperturbable English gentleman, played by the urbane David Niven, attempts to completely circumnavigate the world in eighty days in order to win a large wager. But is he also conveniently missing from London as an investigation into a robbery at the Bank Of England begins?
A lavish production featuring many notable actors of the period including Noel Coward, John Gielgud and Trevor Howard and filmed in over 100 different locations around the world.
My Review:
Spot the stars in one of my favourite 50's films. Never dates, and knocks spots of all remakes. David Niven is superb, and Vernes tale is subtly converted for the big screen. Discs have good extras, and the reproduction compared to the previous vhs version is excellent. I would whole-heartedly recommend this

Amityville 3-D, a review by addicted2dvd

Title: Amityville 3-D
Movie Count: 77
TV Ep Count: 26
Time Started: 1pm (10/27 - Not sure how I missed posting yesterday!)
Plot:
The home of unspeakable evil is back to tormet all who cross its threshold, as Dino De Laurentiis and legendary director Richard Fleischer ('Soylent Green') present "a horror picture of considerable class and polish" ('Los Angeles Times')! Packed with bone-chilling special effects, this third rendezvous with terror in Amityville stars Tony Roberts, Tess Harper, Robert Joy, Candy Clark and Meg Ryan.

To debunk the Amityville house's infamous reputation and take advantage of a rock-bottom asking price, skeptical journalist John Baxter (Roberts) buys the place and settles in to write his first novel. But as soon as the ink on the deed has dried, people who have come into contact with him - and the house - begin to meet with a shocking fate. Is it coincidence...or is this house 'really' the gateway to hell?

My Thoughts:
Another decent "Amityville" installment. At this point the movies are still good. Definitely worth watching. Not only do you have a young Meg Ryan in this movie... but you also have a young Lori Loughlin (Becky on Full House).

Plot:
"HI, EVERYBODY!" Fans of '90s sitcoms know these words mean Steve Urkel has come to call, bringing lots of geeky, goofy fun with him. A spinoff of Perfect Strangers, Family Matters began as the at-home adventures of elevator operator Harriette Winslow and her multigenerational family. But midway through the first season, Jaleel White made a one-shot appearance as neighborhood nerd Urkel. With oversized glasses, undersized body, screechy voice and indomitable self-confidence, Urkel proved irresistibly funny, turning White into an overnight sensation and a new star of the show. Join Urkel and the Winslows for the 22-episode debut season of the hit series that proclaims love matters, laughing matters, Family Matters!

Family Matters
1.01 The Mama Who Came to Dinner
Writer: William Bickley (Created By), Michael Warren (Created By), William Bickley (Writer), Michael Warren (Writer)
Director: Joel Zwick
Cast: Reginald VelJohnson (Carl Winslow), JoMarie Payton-France (Harriette Winslow), Rosetta LeNoire (Estelle "Mother" Winslow), Darius McCrary (Eddie Winslow), Kellie Shanygne Williams (Laura Winslow), Valerie Jones (Judy Winslow), Joseph Julius Wright (Richie Crawford), Telma Hopkins (Rachel)

This series was a spin-off from another series that I have never seen (I am not sure if it even aired in Germany). Steve Urkel was not yet part of the cast at this point but only came in later during the first season (initially only a on-off character). I don't think this series would have lasted long if it hadn't been for Steve and would probably have been long forgotten by now.
