Adam's Rib, a review by Jon

Adam's Rib
4 out of 5

Assistant District Attorney Adam Bonner loves his wife Amanda, but doesn't care much for his opposing counsel in a sensational attempted-murder trial - an opponent who happens to be Amanda.

An absolutely delightful piece of fluff featuring two of the best actors of all time, essentially having a laugh with each other. Of course they were Hollywood's most enduring couple in real-life and probably perfect for each other (despite having to keep it secret). Their banter is amongst the best you'll see in any romantic comedy, especially including the current batch. It's the subtleties of their performances that make this endlessly watchable. To even describe it feels like I'm taking away some of the magic.

The story is typically light with the perfect plot idea for the genre, that pits them against each other in a courtroom with plenty of dialogue that positively zings. Listen out for Tracy's hilarious tongue-tied delivery in several scenes! Hepburn is defending the impossibly cute Judy Holliday, who is another stand out in a great cast, for shooting her wayward husband (that scene opens the film and it's very funny with Holliday reading a manual for the gun while trying to fire it!).

It boils down to a battle of the sexes plot and while it's a bit dated and predictable, it's quite clever how the screenplay compromises a difficult conclusion (they are married lawyers, so how can one accept the other's victory in a high-profile case?). Still, it can't help but feel a bit contrived.

Well, it;s hardly worth mentioning though. Who gives a damn about the plot when it's this pair on-screen? Anyone who enjoys romantic comedies should snap this up straight away.

Death Proof, a review by addicted2dvd

Death Proof
'DIRECTOR QUENTIN TARANTINO DELIVERS' an adrenaline shot to the heart with 'Death Proof', a "tribute to balls-out pedal-to-the-metal car chases" (Pete Hammond, 'Maxim'). Featuring exhilarating high-speed action, jaw-dropping stunts, and some of the most quotable lines since 'Pulp Fiction', 'Death Proof' "goes faster, and funnier, than you thought possible...and then it goes further" (Ty Burr, 'Boston Globe'). Kurt Russell stars as a sociopathic stuntman whose taste for stalking sexy young ladies gets him into big trouble when he tangles with the wrong gang of badass babes. Their confrontation escalates into a hair-raising, 18-minute automotive duel with one of the girls strapped to the hood of a thundering Dodge Challenger that "earns a place of honor among the great movie car chases" (Scott Foundas, 'LA Weekly').

My Thoughts:
This is one of the movies a friend of mine gave me because she didn't like it. In this case I see where she is coming from. The style of the movie itself did not impress me. In my personal opinion the movie was pretty much a snore-fest till the ending. The only good parts in this movie was the car chase scenes. And unfortunately there was not enough of them to save the movie.

I was thrilled to see that Rose McGowan was in the movie (though she does not look good as a bleached blond) but her part in the movie was just so small even her appearance was not that much of a help. I do have to admit I did get a kick out of the very ending of it.  Unfortunately it takes more then just a good ending to make a good movie. I almost didn't make it to the end to see it.

NCIS Marathon, a review by addicted2dvd

NCIS: Season 2: Disc 5

17. AN EYE FOR AN EYE
A petty officer commits suicide after the N.C.I.S. team investigates him, which leads the team to one of the officer's lecturers who works for the CIA.

My Thoughts:
This is a pretty good episode. But not really one of my favorites. I liked the parts towards the beginning... but it kinda lost me when Tony and Kate left the country... as the story really slowed down for me.

My Rating:

18. BIKINI WAX
The N.C.I.S. team suspects a possible stalker when a pregnant female petty officer is murdered backstage at a bikini contest.

My Thoughts:
This is a fun episode. I got a kick at the look on Tony's face when he realized the crime scene was at a bikini contest.

My Rating:

19. CONSPIRACY THEORY
Ducky believes love triangles can be murder, at least in the case of the petty officer who was thought to have committed suicide after suffering a supposed "nervous breakdown."

My Thoughts:
Another one I enjoyed quite a bit. I liked how they showed the cause of the nervcous breakdown. It shows in this day and age just because something sounds crazy... that isn't always the case.

My Rating:

20. RED CELL
A Marine in an ROTC program is murdered and Gibbs and his team suspect the soldier was involved in a game with deadly consequences.

My Thoughts:

This is a good... but really standard episode. Nothing really special to talk about.

My Rating:

NCIS: Season 2: Disc 6

21. HOMETOWN HERO
A heroic Navy medic killed in Iraq is the prime suspect in a murder in his hometown and Gibbs and his team work to clear his name.

My Thoughts:
This is a good episode. I liked how hard the team fought to to clear the medic's name.

My Rating:

22. SWAK
Tony opens a letter only to release a mysterious powder into the N.C.I.S. squad room. Now the team must work to discover an antidote before it's too late.

My Thoughts:
This is such an excellent episode. When you first watch this episode you get the feeling we are about to loose one of the regular characters of the series. I liked how this episode showed no matter how much they argue Kate really does care about Tony... and will go through much to help him.

My Rating:

23. TWILIGHT
Attempting to thwart an assassination attempt on Gibbs, the N.C.I.S. team pays the ultimate price with the death of a team member.

My Thoughts:
Another just excellent episode. And this time we actually do see the end of one of our favorite characters. And it happens so all the sudden and so in your face graphically that to this day... after seeing this episode at least 5 times... it still gets a reaction out of me. Very well done... very strong episode.

My Rating:

Over-All Season 2 Thoughts:
The over-all second season is very strong. Lots of great episodes... and an ending that can't be beat. While it is not what I would personally call a lot... there is a nice modest and well done collection of extras on the set. Definitely a must have for any fan of the series.
