Guardians of the Galaxy, a review by addicted2dvd

Guardians of the Galaxy
In the far reaches of space, an American pilot named Peter Quill finds himself the object of a manhunt after stealing an orb coveted by the villainous Ronan.

Stars:
Chris Pratt as Peter Quill
Zoe Saldana as Gamora
Dave Bautista as Drax
Vin Diesel as Groot (voice)
Bradley Cooper as Rocket (voice)

My Thoughts:
This film is actually not scheduled to be released until today. But I guess some areas got to release it early as we were able to get tickets to see this one a little early. I went along with Danae Cassandra, her mother and a bunch of their work friends last night. Now let me start out by saying I never even heard of this until the trailer came out... so there is no way for me to compare this to the comics.... but as a viewer with no prior knowledge what so ever... I have to say I loved every minute of it! And I so can't wait to add the Blu-ray to my collection when released! When I first saw the trailer... I thought wow! that looks stupid! But boy, was I wrong!

This is not a film if you are looking for some deep philosophical story-telling. This really is no more then a hilarious (yes I found it extremely funny!), fun, action packed sci-fi. It is a leave your brain at the door good time.... like all comic book films should be, IMHO.  Rocket, the smart-ass intelligent weapon wielding raccoon stole the show! I absolutely loved that little guy! He was definitely my favorite character. Other then him I liked Groot... the living plant creature that hung around with Rocket.

If you get the chance you really should see this one on the big screen. What with me being blind in one eye... I couldn't see the 3D film (Thankfully the gang was going to see the 2D version anyway!)... so can't comment on if it worth seeing in 3D either. But I definitely feel this one is worth the time put in to watch it. Even with it being up over 2hrs! Though, you wouldn't know it when watching it. The pace is so good in this film that the time just seemed to fly by!

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, a review by DJ Doena

Harrison Ford    ...    Indiana Jones
Cate Blanchett   ...    Irina Spalko
Karen Allen   ...    Marion Ravenwood
Shia LaBeouf   ...    Mutt Williams
Ray Winstone   ...    'Mac' George Michale
John Hurt   ...    Professor Oxley

Synopsis: 20 years have past, the Nazis are gone and Marcus Brody and Henry Jones, Sr. have died. But now there are Russians and they want to discover the secrets that are behind some mysteriously formed yet perfectly carved crystal skulls. And Indy is right in the middle of it. This time the treasure hunt leads to South America, in the Amazon River region and back to the time of the spanish conquistadores. And Indy is not alone. He's accompanied by his friend Professor Oxley, his former companion Marion - and someone he didn't expect.

My Opinion: I don't have anything against the chosen subject - this time aliens. I mean, c'mon, we've seen the Ark of the Covenant and even the Holy Grail and they've done miraculous things. So why not aliens. It was a very good movie; still I didn't enjoy it as much as its predecessors. It lacked a bit of the charm of the previous movies and there were too many over the top elements in it. For example Indy's survival of a nuclear explosion in a refrigerator that was blasted through the desert, or their triple fall down a waterfall.
My favourite of the series still remains Last Crusade.

Tom's Buffy and Angel Marathon, a review by Tom

Writer: Joss Whedon (Created By), Joss Whedon (Writer)
Director: Joss Whedon
Cast: Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy Summers), Nicholas Brendon (Xander Harris), Alyson Hannigan (Willow Rosenberg), Charisma Carpenter (Cordelia Chase), David Boreanaz (Angel), Anthony Stewart Head (Giles), Max Perlich (Whistler), Seth Green (Oz), Kristine Sutherland (Joyce Summers), Robia LaMorte (Jenny Calendar), James G. MacDonald (Detective Stein), James Marsters (Spike), Juliet Landau (Drusilla), Armin Shimerman (Principal Snyder), Susan Leslie (First Cop), Thomas G. Waites (Second Cop)

Probably my favorite Buffy season finale. I remember first seeing it, when it was first aired in Germany and had to wait months for the new season.
As a matter of fact I think I had it taped, because I was vacationing in the US at the time. There I got to see some episodes from the third season. My first chance to see Buffy in English. At the time it was something special to have the chance to see the original language version. No DVDs and still on dial-up internet connection. I remember that the third season finale was supposed to air, but got postponed. My first taste of English language Buffy were some re-runs (Homecoming, Band Candy, and I think Doppelgangland as replacement for Graduation Day Part II).
