Stan Winston 1946-2008

I just came across a report at IMDB that Stan Winston has died. Light on details so far, I found more here... Los Angeles Times

62 is too young and I thought he'd be around for years. The film world has lost a true artist; Stan Winston just about built my childhood. Every film I really wanted to see and wasn't allowed to (Aliens, Predator) seemed to have his name on it. He was one of the first names behind the camera I became aware of and I remember thinking that if I saw him associated with a particular movie, it had to be worth seeing... it's testament to his skill that Terminator 2, Jurassic Park, etc, still haven't dated.

I found the (shocking) news at DigitalBits...

He apparently had some for of blood cancer(?) which is uncurable, yet at least treatable. I am sad to see him go so young. While CGI has taken over a big chunk of his work, it was shown time and again that his trade was still important in this day and age as well.

He will be missed.
