Funny conversation with a "young person"

So, we temporarily have a roommate staying with us.  He's originally from New Mexico and just moved to Oregon.  And he's right around 30 years old.

So we watched something the other night.  Afterwards I was saying I'd find something he's not seen.  And he told me that he doesn't like "old movies".  I informed him that I wasn't looking for "old movies".  Maybe something from the '80s or '90s.  With a completely straight face he said "Yeah, that's what I meant.  Old movies". :slaphead: :stars: :surrender:

That kind of blew my mind!

What am I supposed to say, I'm married to such a person (not that young though).
The-Best-Of-All-Possible-Wives actually says the same about movies older than from the 70'ies.
This behaviour has led me to not telling her from which time-period a movie is.

Movies from the 80s and 90s are old movies? Good grief.  Now I feel ancient.  And I'm not a lot older than 30 really.  Wow.

That's what I thought about movies from the 50s when I was young in the early 80s. 30 years really is a long time for someone young.


There is a channel on YouTube where the "Fine Brothers" (who are a part of my generation) show kids, teens, adults, or popular YouTubers different objects and viral videos and comment.

Two of the more recent fun ones are "Kids React to Technology" and are shown...

... a rotary telephone


... and a walkman.



Generation gaps are much wider from a mental standpoint than they are physically.

 :hysterical:  Very true.  Or that there use to be even bigger disks.  And one program could have like 10 disks.

My first was an IBM PCJr. Aside from not having to turn the computer back off after inserting a disc, it worked pretty much the same (with a few improvement given a few years had passed) except many of the commands were different between the two companies.

I actually still have mine in storage for the sake of nostalgia.

None of the kids interviewed in the video(s) was born before 2000. They don't know a world without computers. Just like my generation don't know a world without TV (I am just old enough to know b&w TVs...).

I found it interesting, that the title group assembled here, had a whole variety of responses. Everything from "stupid" to "interesting" could be heard...

Of all the episodes of Kids React I have seen (maybe around 70% of the over 100 available) the one with the computer is my favorite one.

I get customers all the time going "I'm looking for an old movie ..." and what they're looking for came out in the 80's or 90's.  Makes me just wanna slap somebody and go "THAT'S NOT AN OLD MOVIE!" 

Personally, I reserve the term "old movie" for anything made pre-MPAA ratings.

I really don't even think of  movies from the 60s as old really.  But 80s and 90s as old?  no.  no no no.  Now I feel ancient.
