Just out of interest, will windows automatically pick up the fact its changed or do you have to perform some magic to do this?

I believe that when you allow web elements on the XP desktop it refreshs automatically (since it loads the picture from the web).

But I didn't try it since I like "real" wallpapers like these:

Web elements get updated automatically.  However when you just specify an image that you want as a wallpaper, I think windows copies it somewhere and uses the copy.  I can test that tonight with xp and vista.
