Blatantly false hype!

Ok, I have nothing against them* trying to push Blu-ray down my throat when I buy a DVD. But with blatantly false information? 



And I'm not talking about the Blu image being sharper, but about the Blu image being wider than DVD! 

Although I'm sure they were generous with the sharpening on the Blu and the blurring on the DVD.

It's not impossible that they use a different aspect ratio.  Your image would tend to suggest that the DVD is 1:85 and Blu Ray is 2:35

Still, it's not an "advantage" of Blu-ray over DVD.. It's a conscious decision to make Blu-ray look better than DVD in an area where DVD can equal Blu-ray (AR).

For me it looks like they used a 4:3 DVD image. My DVD release of cars is 2.40. It is also available in the US as FF 1.33, I believe. And this is what they used for comparison IMO.

I think you're right about 4:3 Tom.  I was looking at it on my widescreen TV set to 800x600 resolution so everything is stretched a bit.
