Poster revealed today:

Horrible poster. :(

Either way I am looking forward to this.

I like the poster! Have you seen the original films?

samuelrichardscott

I saw the first on a flight, dubbed so didn't pay much attention. :-\

I've been waiting for the extended versions and have had them in my Lovefilm high priority list for an eternity. I have read the books however, which I loved.

Well I saw the standard versions and loved the first one in particular. It's a rather mundane world which is which good, because the contrast with the plot works all the better and Lisbeth is a brilliantly unpredictable element. Its because of her that I think Fincher might be onto his best film potential yet. Shame he wasn't first! He has a habit of making films about anti-social arseholes...in fact, make that every film... So she is perfect material.

After advertising etc, the financers have written this off as a $200m loss. Ouch. I doubt we'll see big budget remakes of the other two parts then.

ooh dear. To be fair, parts 2 and 3 would have been tough to adapt. The Swedish sequel knows it's nutty as a fruitcake and plays up to it, which I don't think Fincher could have captured. Meanwhile part 3 is a dull narrative with little to get stuck into. It's good and watchable, but I doubt it would have floated Finchers boat without an aggressive adaptation.

So, my first thought, long before he was lined up to remake it, when watching the original holds true. It's the best film Fincher never directed!

Or...maybe they take it slow on stupid remakes to begin with and put out good transfer DVDs and Blu-rays and drum up some advertisement to get those sold ;D

I didn't care much for the original to begin with, but Fincher's version managed to be even less interesting. TV-style editing, a more accessible Salander plus an awkward romantic coda - it's the quintessential American remake.
