Warner have hired Drew Pearce to write the third film. He's currently writing Iron Man 3.

I still haven't seen the first.

Didn't miss too much.
From this cast much more was to be expected.

Do yourself a favour and stick with the BBC miniseries.

My problem is that Holmes was a dark man, drugs etc etc when written by Doyle. From what I understand, it hasn't been portrayed that way to these films.

Absolutely not.
But what can you expect if the let Downey, Jr. play Holmes?

Maybe if the cast had been reversed and Jude Law had shown an interpretation of Holmes it would have turned out different.

I really enjoyed the first one, but had resigned myself to no-one doing it properly. It was especially frustrating because, and sorry to disagree, but Downey Jr was perfect. Holmes has been adopted as a serious literary character, but in fact, he was slightly larger than life and absurd, which I believe was Doyle's intention, albeit with that dark edge. Downey Jr could have done that easily, but he was somewhat lost in a film that was excitement and thrills first, plot second.

Rather than dismiss one, I enjoy both current interpretations. The first film is one of the best blu-ray experiences I've had; such rich detailed sets, and barnstorming silly adventures. The beeb series is simply awesome. Can't wait for the second series.

Is that being made yet? Or are they still waiting for Freeman to return from NZ?
