Today in the big box of DVDs I got...

Campfire Stories

This turns out to be an Ex-Rental from Hollywood Video. But apparently the person behind the counter was too much in a hurry when they sold the DVD.... and forgot to take the lock off the DVD in the case. I am sure my friend that sent me this just didn't (as she bought a bunch of ex-rentals recently) notice it.

Anyway I am now stuck... not able to get the DVD out of the case. Is there any way I can actually get this disc out of the case without damaging the disc? I really want to see this movie... so I am a little desperate here!

Oh no...and they are horror stories too!

I have no idea how to do it correctly - I would probably just break the case!

Just to clarify... it isn't the case is locked closed. This type there is a round lock on the hub so you can't remove the disc from the hub.

Not sure I can break the case in this situation. It will be at the least very difficult.

I wonder if you can't take it to a rental place, explain the situation and let them open it for you.

This is what I was on my way to post too  ;D

Except that there isn't any rental places that close to where I live anymore. Netflix and Redbox pretty much destroyed the rental business around here.

Is it in metal or in plastic? If it is in plastic you could always try to remove the top with a saw blade (even in metal if you have an hacksaw blade it's always possible)... Of course after so much works the movie is better be good

After discovering the deal with Campfire Stories I looked at all the DVDs that were obvious ex-rentals... and wouldn't you know it... found another one with the same kind of lock! :(

El Chupacabra

And yes... of course it is another horror movie. :(

Looking at it... it actually looks like plastic covered metal. (back of case you see 2 holes... and see metal (tapped it with a tack to be sure) on the inside.

Dragonfire

That stinks...I have no idea how you could get that lock thing off. :(

Try YouTube there are vids on there that explain how to get the case locks off there may be one for these?

In cases of emergency I found this tool to be extremely useful:

Najemikon

Pete, sure the case itself is only typical Amaray soft plastic? I'd just use a Stanley knife and cut the case from around the disc.

samuelrichardscott

This film is so bad, take it as an omen. ;)

Can't suggest you anything more, but this is sure a weird practice :headscratch:

Last time I rented something here the dvd wasn't in the case place in the shell. You took an empty dvd case behind the dvd itself (no empty case = the film is rented) and bring it to the counter where the dvd are. This way sure look more usefull and practical to me
