So, because of rain in Australia this has been pushed back to 2012 though Miller told Yahoo movies that all cast members are locked in, funding is locked in and a lot of the pre-production is already done. Cars etc have been done also.

Looking forward to this one.

IMDb doesn't say who plays Max. But since it's not mentioned, it seems Gibson isn't returning

Anyone know who it will be from another source?

According to Kino.de (German only) it's going to be Tom Hardy.

The info seems a bit outdated though (29.01.2010)

Definately Hardy. He was on TV the other day talking about it. Charlize Theron is also signed to star. It was actually due to start filming at the end of 2010 but flooding in Australia scuppered it. I'm sure Miller said the cars etc were already done... Yep, google-fu for the Telegraph interview:
QuoteWe will restart pre-production later this year and begin early next year - weather permitting. We've built the vehicles. We've designed the movie. The principal cast is locked in. The film is funded. It's all ready to go. We just wait.

Ah, yes, thanks for reminding me. I actually read about Hardy before; strange that I didn't see him mentioned on IMDb...

So films were very much a product of their time. I wonder what Max will b like now. But at least I think Miller wants to do as much in camera as he can

Some production footage of the vehicles:

Yeah ... looks like filming completed in December 2012 per Madmax 4 Site.  Tom Hardy might be a nice fit.  Some reading I have seen says that it is a 'reboot'.  I really hope that they continue the saga and not just start from the beginning.
Thank you
David

I second that.
