Even though I still haven't finished BioShock - haven't played it in a while even - I got BioShock 2 yesterday.  It was only $9.99 for a new copy..I couldn't turn that down.

Well I've gone and done it. Is the Devil shivering from the cold now Hell has frozen over? I've bought a bloody PS3.  :bag: I'm blaming Achim.

My main reason was its Blu and streaming capability and I've been impressed so far. Not used it in anger yet for any games. I got Red Dead Redemption because it was relatively cheap, but not loaded it yet. I did download the demo of Mortal Kombat, because while I've always been a bit anti-console regards my favourite genre of FPS, button mashing is the only way to play a proper scrapping game! I got Move in the deal too. Clever stuff.

Dragonfire

Resistance is futile.

I was looking at other games yesterday...I was sort of tempted by a few..but so far I didn't get anymore.  I want to try to get through BioShock...just need to get back to playing that again.

RDR is a great game, I imagine you will like it.

As for streaming, you already got that figured out? What server are you using?
I have tried these:
Google Code
and Nullsoft's MediaLink, which is for Mac only.

Najemikon

No, nothing fancy yet! By streaming I simply mean it found my nas box, lovefilm and bbc.. :P

I realized that 20 minutes ago, that you probably meant streaming from outside, like lovefilm and bbc. :slaphead: Modern NAS systems often have presets for the PS3, so it's nice that your's seemed to work right away. I steam from my Mac Pro, so I had to install a server software. Since I do it all wirelessly though, I usually don't stream but copy first, then watch and delete (low resoution stuff streams o.k., but at higher bitrates the video gets choppy).

I've done it! I've finally purchased a PS3 and with it, 2 games; Uncharted 2 and Killzone 2. Tried both for a brief moment but was disapointed by the PS3 control. I'll definitely have difficulty with the sticks being so close. Otherwise a cool purchase! It's very, read very, quiet compared to the xbox.

Got to watch a couple of Bluray's too  8)

For some reason, I longed for some xbox'ing and played trough 2 of my xbox games and started on a third; Dead Space 2.
DS 2 is da shit, I tell you! ;D

I could not imagine the asymmetric sticks of the 360 controller to be more comfortable to me. Since I can't compare, I am quite comfortable with the PS3 controlelrs myself.

DS2 is awesome, indeed! Definetely one of my favorite games.

EDIT:
I finished L.A. Noire. (Tip: Watch the credits to the end.)

Favorite quote from a NPC:

Thanks for the heads up! Though I always watch the credits to the end at least once, just in case.

On a completely different subject - am I the only one completely underwhelmed by E3 this year? I mean .. Ninja Gaiden 3? Halo 4? Mass Effect 3? Elder Scrolls 5? Modern Warfare 3? Zelda 9867?

See a pattern?

<sigh> Don't get me wrong, a lot of those look really interesting (Ninja Gaiden, Halo, Mass Effect, Elder Scrolls, Zelda: Sky<something> sword) .. still, nothing new. Nothing we didn't already know about.

Oh sure, there's Wii U .... ah! Like I'm throwing away money at Nintendo ever again. With the fiasco Wii turned out to be (I don't mean financially - I mean "gameredly") it'll be a while until I get a new Nintendo platform.

Oh and how Kinect is slowly destroying Xbox .. I mean, sure,

Mass Effect 3 with Kinect support! What? It's only voice recognition? .. whoop-dee-doo! Weren't be able to do this like last gen with headsets?

Fable: Journey with Kinect support! What? An on rails horse driving game? ... ok ... sure ... whatever.

All future Tom Clancy games will feature Kinect! Woohoo! hummmm ... when's the last Tom Clancy game I interesting in came out? Oh yeah, forever ago ..

<sigh>

:o So other games put stuff there as well? I only caught this by accident. Willhave to change my habits then.

The trend to more and more sequels is sad, but it's not like the movies are much better with this and obviously it's playing it safer for the developers/distributors. That is why I always make sure to support original games and especially dish out for DLC on those; not only to get the stuff but just to give them more money! Well, I didn't buy the DLC for Heavy Rain, but Red Dead Redemption, L.A. Noire, etc. Also, gamers always want more of games they like (e.g. Call of Duty... ::)) and often it's better to them if nothing is changed (e.g. Call of Duty ::)).

I have no history with them, so I won't watch Nintendo's press conference. I can get information about the Wii successor elsewhere. I watched Apple's keynote last night (Lion, iOS 5, iCloud; mad stuff) and will watch most of Sony's presentation (I own a PS3 ), minus the handheld stuff, and maybe skim through Microsoft's stuff quickly for the games I care about.

Sorry, my sarcasm detector is broken this morning. So you feel Kinect is pulling down the XBOX from what it should be/do? Well, at least they seem to support it , Sony has all but forgotten about the Move :headscratch:

Wasn't there even a game with voice dcommands before? Some Tom Clany RTS game or so...? So really not anything new. Maybe they are making it Kinect, so they can have it exclusive on the XBOX?

Well not too many do .. but the most glaring example of "you should really watch the credits 'til the end" to me was .. well either Fable or Fable II .. can't quite remember .. but one of them allowed you to keep playing and finish sidequests and stuff .. but only if you watched the overly long credits.

That is quite cool. Like in movies, I think it is showing a bit of respect to all the people who made the thing possible, so while I don't always pay 100% attention I often let the credits roll by. Some developers seem to think the same, so the do what you saw with Fable or they even implement a trophy to pop after watching the entire credits! (I forgot which game did that.)

So the next few days I will split my gaming time between L.A. Noire trophy hunting and inFamous 2. inFamous is a weird beast, in that the story never really grabbed me entirely, the gameplay is often filled with cheap kills and annoying bits, yet it's all very smooth and and highly fun to play.

Not really what I meant. Kinect is fine and dandy - for those who want that sort of stuff. Personally, I have no intention to get Kinect. None.

But what irks me is that they'll make voice commands in Mass Effect 3 for squad mates AND dialog .. but I'm pretty sure they'll keep it Kinect only, even though it could easily be done with the already available headset (don't forget the Kinect addon has no processors on board - it's all done at the console level). Maybe they'll surprise me and have headset support - at this point I don't know - but somehow, I feel Microsoft will make sure the feature is Kinect only. Why do I feel like that? 150$ for the Kinect addon vs what? 30$-40$ for the headset, which most people will have gotten as part of their Xbox Live package anyway? If that's not the very definition of a rip off, I don't know what is.

There's also the fact that so far, Kinect is nothing more than a glorified Wii. Of course, it goes with the fact none of the Kinect games appeal to me. I mean .. controller-less racing? Animal petting? Exercising titles? Dancing? Woohoo! How exciting .. NOT.

Sounds like what Ninja Gaiden (the one on Xbox) was to me! The story never grabbed me, and actually made no sense at all to me. Some of the ennemies were coded to be incredibly cheap. But there was such a sense of power with pulling off all those ninja moves. Very satisfying game - once you beat it - IF you can beat it.

I can enjoy the challenge, but stuff like Ninja Gaiden (only played a demo once) or Demon's Soul (only keep reading about it) are not my cup of tea. Heck, I have to admit I stopped playing Need for Speed Hot Pursuit because it was a slight notch to tough for me :bag:

I like stuff where the challenge is balanced just right, so that it is tough but doable. Dead Space's Impossible Mode or Uncharted's Crushing Mode are in such a way that even repeatedly loosing at a certain section always has me happily come ack for more punishment, because I know I will  be able to do  it eventually.
