Thanks Kevin

Now I can enter since I got a Blu-Ray reader ;D

Not for me but for the benefit of our Europeans friends since it isn't written on the page. Is it region lock (region A) or multi-region?

KinkyCyborg

It is Region A. I don't know about the playback capabilities of European bluray players but irregardless, the contest is still open worldwide.

There is no such thing as multi-region Blu-Ray players, unless you go to the trouble of making a cracked copy, which is expensive (Blu-Ray writer, blank disc, etc). You can only play discs for your region or those that aren't locked. I do have several of those, because AxelMusic were doing some outrageous offers, but luckily they also go out of their way to check if the disc will play outside the States.

Ironically, on Stone, they don't know, but consider it very likely it will be locked. This one seems to be as well. :(

I have thought about it. All Criterions are locked and the new Dances With Wolves that Roger linked the other day is as well. That hurts!

You should look up your brand or make of player as many have a combination of remote control button clicks that open a secret menu that gives you the option to make your player region free. I know I have done that with several DVD players over the years.

Yes, there is often something like this for the region settings for DVDs in DVD and Blu-ray players. But as far as I know there is no Blu-ray player on the market where you can do the same for Blu-rays.

That's right. I recently asked again at a specialist I've often used in the past. He said there are a couple of players now that can be upgraded by firmware fairly easily and they've done a few. However, the next over-the-air update from the manufacturer always wipes it out. And with Blu-Ray, there can be a lot of interim updates because the technology is changing all the time. For instance, my Alien set wouldn't play until I let it run an upgrade.
