I too hate it football :/ unfortunately the cup always falls when im spending time with the family  which means we have to stop and watch the games.... however, I have a portable DVD player this time around

Why don't you propose to record the games. So you could spend more time with the family and they can watch the games later!

Looks like I'm going to have to watch it with the sound turned off. What an annoying freaking sound!

I had the exact same problem, I turned it on last night to watch a bit of the Opening Ceremony but I couldn't even hear the bloody thing. The noise of those horns was so overbearing that I couldn't actually hear any of the performers in the ceremony, and if I tried to turn it up I just turned the sound of horns up. After about 10 minutes of this I just had to turn it off, the constant drone was giving me a headache. I don't mine hearing the crowd but really, they have certainly lost the balance with this one.
