Dragonfire

After I bought the first one, Amazon had the Quadriology set thing on Blu as the deal of the day for $29.  If I hadn't already gotten Alien, and opened it,  I would have gotten that.

Why?
Always remember "Highlander": There Can (Should) Only Be One!

This was correct for such outstanding films as:
The Matrix
Police Academy
Alien
Star Wars
Jurassic Park
Highlander

.
to be continued

Sorry, but your list is flawed. Star Wars, Alien and, assuming you'd get there, The Godfather clearly don't belong there, their second part was just as good, some will sy even better.

Generally I do agree with you though. Then again, I watched my share if sequels, espeially in the horror genre, so in that way I am also part of the target audience :bag:

First of all: It's "There can be only one!"

Star Wars? You mean they should have stopped after Episode I?  :P No seriously, if you say they should have stopped after the first trilogy, I agree. But after "A New Hope"?

And I have to admit, I like the first 4 Police Academy movies (as long as Mahoney (sp?) was on board).

Dragonfire

I would have gone with the set on sale because that was a good price and there were more extras.

Right now, I don't plan to get the other movies..I've heard all kinds of bad things about the third and fourth movies.  I've never had any interest in Alien Vs. Predator...those just looked stupid.

Now... I have a question to ask of any Stargate fans out there. This is the first time I will be watching these series. I have seen season 1 of Stargate SG-1 (And the original Stargate movie) before... but nothing else.

So... is Stargate Atlantis  a standalone series that I can choose to start watching any time? Or do I want to be sure to finish SG-1 before starting Alantis?

I think SG: Atlantis is a set of shows on their own.  "Basics" are Stargate but very quickly moves off the original.
Let us know what you think when you see them.

I picked up the Stargate TV shows too - love 80% off!

Have you ever seen them before Kathy? I only ever seen season 1 of SG-1.

I've only seen the original movie. I'm looking forward to watching these shows. I didn't realize that the one was on the air for 10 years - it must be pretty good!

Yeah... I enjoyed every minute of the first season. It originally started on Showtime premium channel... but later moved to the Sci-Fi channel. I am not 100% sure when. According to Wikipedia it was after season 5. So seemed to last 5 seasons on Showtime and then 5 more on Sci-Fi Channel. Can anyone confirm that Wikipedia is right on this?

Stargate Atlantis Season 1 runs parallel to Stargate SG-1 Season 8.

You should first watch the two-parter season opening of season 8 before starting with Atlantis.

And yes, Wikipedia is right on this.

If it is in the set, avoid watching the pilot episode as "The Final Cut". The Final Cut tries to correct some "mistakes" to make it more compatible with the rest of the show but the editing is a bit awkward (scene fade-outs and other stuff) and I like half of the stuff they removed.

Here a short list of what they've changed:

In the original pilot there was a talk between O'Neill and Kawalsky about O'Neill's son which reveals that Kawalsky doesn't know much about him. That makes sense when you consider the movie. But during the run of the show it's revealed that O/K have known each other for many years.

This is the only change I'd approve.

Then they removed the MacGyver reference (blasphemy!)

Then they removed Carter's rant about her "reproductive organs". I had never really considered it silly. But the show makes a point of making fun of it in later episodes. To remove it now from the pilot makes thereby no sense.

I know Americans are squeamish towards nudity but I thought how Apophis treated the slaves showed how he sees them as little more than meat sacks, something that gets lost in the editing.
