Anyway the ammount wouldn't be a problem in the USA as they use a volontary declaration system when they filled their income tax (it's the US way, the less you contribute to your society the better it is) contrary to us who are charge directly at the post office with every package over the limit. So in our case combining the package would be better as we would pay the administrative 5$ fee only one time in place of three.

Not sure if this would make sense, because in this case the shipping fee would add to every single package.

It does make sense in reverse.

For example: Let's say you have two seasons of series X, both cost $26.99 at Amazon.com

$26.99 are €20.31 ATM.

If you order them one at the time these are your costs:

Item26.99
Shipping base cost3.99
Shipping item cost2.49
Total33.47

$33.47 = €25.18. Since the package value (sum of all items minus shipping fees) is below €22 there are no customs or import tax (Einfuhrumsatzsteuer EUSt [19%]).

Total price: €25.18 * 2 = €50.36

If you order them together you save one shipping base cost.

Now if you order them together:

Item26.99 * 253.98
Shipping base cost3.99
Shipping item cost2.49 * 24.98
Total62.95

$62.95 = €47.36. Since the package value is above €22 you need to pay EUSt (no actual customs though, because the package value is below €150). But you have to pay EUSt on the whole value, i.e. items + shipppings.

€47.36 + 19% = €56.36.

Difference: 6€

It gets even more expensive when you hit the €150 mark, where you'd pay 3.5% on the whole value and then the 19% EUSt on the sum of that.

In our example that would be €47.36 + 3.5% = €49.02 + 19% = €58.33

Well, things are even worse here in Sweden. First of all the VAT is 25%. Then there is a SEK 100 handling fee (c:a €11.65), so for us the total would be €47.36 + €11.84 + €11.65 = €70.85. So that's more than €20 extra. Plus it could delay the package up to a week. But then again, sometimes packages slip through customs, so it's a gamble. Not a risk I like to take, though.  :(

:o

Did I understand that right, there is a handling fee for the custom clearance...?

Here in Taiwan all packages go through without any problem, provided the value of the contained items is less than US$100. After that I will be charged some tax, most of the time.

If we're over the €22 limit and get charged VAT and/or tax, yes. That's what pisses people off more than having to pay the actual VAT.

We have one too. Not as much as it is in Sweden, but it's 5$ if the package value is more than 20$ (wich is way too small) and of course we have to pay the federal taxes (5%) and the provincial taxes (10%).

You gotta love this bureaucrats.

Having to pay a fee because you have to pay taxes.   :hmmmm:  :redcard:
And it's not as if those bureaucrats weren't already getting payed from my money.
