I don't think that we can say that a film with a one million budget who had grossed $90,000,000 in the world is a "thing that never really took off"

But you're right it was rated R in Australia...

Here it was rated 18+ and almost nothing receive this rating. Very rare that the French Canadian rating board is more strict than the one in Ontario

Britt and I watched it at the theater when it came out... and I am looking forward to watching it again with her tomorrow :)

This poster (Wolverine's pose) reminds me of a youtube clip I stumpled across recently:

Wolverine (in 30 seconds)

You're talking about Fritz here right? Wow I didn't know it grossed that much. When I said never really took off I was leaning more towards his fantasy works I think like Wizards and Fire and Ice which are not well known now and more 'cult' hits than anything.

Fritz is a great film, but I think it has definitely shocked a few people, I first got in to Fritz after reading the American Splendour Comic, by Harvey Pekar, (He did some early artwork) I read some of the comic stuff on the net before watching in the movies.

There is a second Fritz film (that I think is in that DVD set) "The Nine Lives of Fritz the Cat"

It was the first animated film to get rated R in America, im not sure about everywhere else.

I always felt Fritz was an up to date Felix the cat!

...also, Robert Crumb makes and appearance in the biopic American Splendour (Harvey Pekar's movie) If you  haven't seen that id recommend it, Paul Giamatti is great in it perfect for the role of Harvey Pekar, I can't remember who plays Crumb though.
