I don't know about deliveries from other libraries, but mine too has a substantial DVD collection. I actually have a custom category set up on DVD Profiler to cover what they have that may interest me at some point (so I can put it on hold). They even seem to have quite a bit of anime (and its printed cousin, manga), but often there's a volume or two missing for those.

Current totals 196 profiles in "Library" and two in "Borrowed". I also have Inkheart on hold.

Just finished Repulsion, and I'm speechless.

It's been a loooooong time since I saw it last. I recently bought the Criterion Blu-ray and now, after you comment, should watch it fast. However, it is clearly a film that needs a certain mood, not something I'd watch as easy entertainment after coming home from work, like I would a TV series.

Me too. Must have been in the early '80s. But I remember being very impressed at the time. When Jon an I were discussing Wicker Man, it came about as a side note (by way of an Empire article, I think) and I meant to put it on my wishlist, but forgot. Maybe this time it will stick.

I have to admit, for the first hour I wasn't too keen on it. Shadows of Truffaut and Bresson kept creeping into my mind, but boy, after the sister goes on holiday, it took off like a rocket. The imagery and framing was outstanding.

Don't worry, it's coming. I just have to find a way to put into words the way it blew me away.

Finished watching Jean-Pierre Jeunet's Delicatessen. A very strange tale, but I liked it.

Najemikon

So far of Jeunet's work, I only like Amelie and A Very Long Engagement. They both have their fair share of odd, but in a really affecting way. I just found too much in-your-face odd with the others, I couldn't get through them!

But horses for courses, I can only detest him for the mess he made of Alien 4, the git. :voodoo:

Antares

I've never seen Alien 4, and probably never will, so I can't comment on it.

But what I love about Jeunet's work is that it is completely original and always beautifully shot.

Najemikon

That's certainly true. Not an Alien fan though?

Antares

I like the first two.

Actually, I saw the first one back in its original run in 1979. I was 19 at the time and experimenting with all sorts of drugs. I went with two friends to see it, and we were all on mescaline. Everyone in the theater was shitting their pants at the horror scenes, and myself and my two friends were laughing hysterically.  :-[ :hysterical:
