I seen this on the MSN home page - very excited! Monster's Inc is one of my favourites :D

I'm curious to hear the new storyline. This has always been my favorite Pixar film.

Some are crying foul already. "Why a sequel to Monsters, Inc?" Well point one, I trust Pixar implicitly and point two, this film was possibly their least ambitious and therefore, after the Toy Stories, has the most scope for a successful sequel. Really looking forward to this. Bit surprised really about all the fuss surrounding who will direct. Pixar seem as collaborative as anyone, so I have no such concerns.

I have to say that I can quite grasp your assessment of the first film as being Pixar's least ambitious film. To me, it was quite the contrary. A great twist on conventional animated storytelling.

For me, their least ambitious films have been A Bug's Life and Cars.

Honestly, I'm a little worried about the story for this new film, because I can't fathom in which direction they will go.

The last time I saw Monsters http://www.dvdcollectorsonline.com/index.php/topic,5593.msg96150.html#msg96150, I saw it post Ratatouille and Wall-E, and saw it as them playing with the buddy set-up of Toy Story, as Bugs Life already did. I thought it was the closest they came to following a formula BUT I stress, I only mean within Pixar. As a film in it's own right it is far superior to Bugs and Cars and is an absolute joy.

Dragonfire

I love Monsters Inc.  I'm sure whatever Pixar comes up with will be wonderful.  They have yet to disappoint me.

Critter

I think I prefered Pixar when they didn't start making sequels to all their films but hell, they haven't let us down yet so I trust that they know what they are doing. The Pixar film I am looking forward to the most is called 'Brave'  previously 'The Bear and the Bow'. It's combining two of my favourite things, those being Pixar and archery and I can't wait. I think it is schedualed for a 2012 or 2011 release.

Found the news about the sequel yesterday and am also a bit "concerned" where they want to go with the story. Monsters in the human world this time around...? :hmmmm:

Monsters is not my favorite Pixar film, but close. I just re-watched it very recently and was amazed how emotional it was. Maybe I was in a strange mood, but the film made me well up in many places, somewhere I didn't except (incl. the last shot, which is simply an image of Sully smiling!!! (Heck, I get emotional now just thinking about it :hysterical:).

But yes, like Jon, I'll trust them. Except Cars (their weakest effort to date, and even that was not all bad) they have never disappointed me. Also, if you watch the special features one quickly realizes that story is paramount with them. They always look at what drives the story first, the technicalities of making the film seem secondary.

Hey, Mr. Lasseter, where that Blu-ray of The Incredibles...? And maybe throw in Finding Nemo while you're at it.
