Weekend Movie Marathon

Anything Goes

This weekend (1/22 - 1/24) Brittany has a 3 day weekend. I promised I would watch a few movies with her.... since I have no idea what she will be in the mood to watch I thought I would do an Anything Goes weekend. Meaning I can watch any movie at all. Whether it is on DVD, Recorded on my DVR, On cable or off of On-Demand.

I decided to put this thread up early because I would like to get some of my unwatched DVDs taken care of this weekend as well. So I will be listing what choices I have on DVD as well as what I have recorded on my DVR. This way if you see something you liked and would like to recommend... or something you would like to see a review of ask... and even though I can't promise to get to it... I will try.

The Dr. Phibes films are two good Vincent Price's movies, the first half of Full Metal Jacket is the best thing Kubrick had ever done and maybe you will like The Great American Snuff Film but be warn this is really violent and hard to watch.

Pete, I'd have said Black Hawk down and Full Metal Jacket, but with your other unwatched war film genres perhaps you may do that as a more specialised marathon in the future?

- Sweeny Todd (Johnny Depp... Could I pull off a musical for horror?)
Since you don't like musical in general, I suppose Sondheim would be especially hard to stomach.

Starz: On-Demand
- Rachel Getting Married (Anne Hathaway)
That was one of the best movies (if not the best) of 2008 with an outstanding performance by Hathaway. I posted a review for it.

FEARnet:
- Bug (Ashley Judd)
Great horror chamber piece by Friedkin. But we might have different expectations when it comes to horror.

As far as I remember both, but most of it is spoken in English. It is a British movie, not an Indian like you would first expect.

I used to have a copy of Burn After Reading but never got around to watching it the brief time I had it (I wound up giving it to my brother).  I recall it got good reviews and it is a brother by the talented Coen brothers who also did such favorites as Fargo, O Brother Where Art Thou?, Raising Arizona and others.

I saw Burn After Reading..I liked it, but it is ...different.  I know people that hated it too.  I do think it is worth watching at least once.

I love Sweeney Todd.  It is a great horror story, though there is a lot of music and singing.  I think it is worth trying to watch it...but I don't feel about musicals like you do.

My Thoughts:
This is the first SyFy Original Movie I get to see of 2010 (the first made?).  Charisima Carpenter stars in this movie was the main reason I wanted to see this one. I went into this one not expecting much at all as the SyFy movies tend to be a bit on the cheesy side. The movie is better then I was expecting it to be. Sure some of the effects were cheesy... there was some predictable stuff in it. But I definitely enjoyed it. Charisma Carpenter plays a psychic that joins one of those shows where they go off investigating supposedly haunted houses called Sinister Sites. On her very first episode they end up in the "real thing". Even though this movie is pretty predictable... I still enjoyed this one. And I hope to add this movie to my DVD collection if/when it is ever released.
