Huh? I didn't know Mark's program could do that. And the description on his website doesn't indicate it. Could you explain a little?

Not sure whether it's advertised or not. In the "Other" section there is a filter for Watched. Only the numbers for Once/Twice/Thirce watched must be calculated manually a little bit.

QuoteI do find these numbers a bit surprising. Same with the ones that posted on the other forum. The number of DVDs watched more than once is staggering low.
I found them less surprising than shocking

Well, yes. When I saw your numbers I thought that that's how it should be. I guess one problem that helped create my uneven numbers is my staying in Taiwan. Rental seemed too difficult (and early on unavailable anyway) so that I often just bought what I wanted to see. I think I could easily skim out lots of "unneeded" films and reduce my collection to 50%. Kind of sad, actually. But what can I do now...? Well, my excuse was always that I am a "collector".

I have always hated to rent (apartment, dvds etc.). It feels I am throwing money away. I may spend more buying something but then it is mine. Or, it could be that I've always been a collector too!

I simply have to many DVDs (especially series that cost a lot of time) to watch them too often and I have only started a watched statistic in September 2007.

For myself I only mark a profile as watched if I have actually viewed it on the dvd I own.
Many films in my collection I have watched at the cinema, on video, or on television, but i do not record these viewings on my watched stats.
A good example would be The Abyss. I must have watched the film at least 5 times, but it will only show on my stats as viewed once (ie I have watched that DVD once)

In addition a proportion of my collection has been purchased for my kids, or other members of the family, who may have watched them.

And last 'excuse' I have () is that I only trim off dvds that I see, so I am sure there are some major culls coming in the future when I get around to watching another 1500 dvds or so  :tv:

Managing a video store for all those years ruined me on renting movies. All those years of getting free rentals... no way I would consider paying for something I just have to give back now.  :P

But it is not entirely correct. I didn't keep track of my watched dates from the beginning. When I started, I set at least one watch date for older profiles though (set to the purchase date).
In the beginning I watched a lot of my movies multiple times. Sadly I didn't keep track of those dates.

Good idea Tom  I'm in the same situation and my stats never make sense because of that.

DJ Doena

Originally I had only an "unwatched" tag and a "never watched" child tag.

Before I did the above statistic I gave all profiles that are by definition unwatchable (box sets, season boxes) a watched date of Jan 1st, 2000. This was before I bought my first DVD and I can filter them out this way. Then I gave all my profiles that didn't have the "unwatched" flag and didn't aready have a watched event a watched date of their purchase date.

I also added a watched event for DVDs I had already watched when I started tracking those stats.

What I do, however, is to "concentrate" events. If I have double-dips or otherwise multiple copies of a movie I will possibly move a watched event to the new profile so that that one will show multiple viewings. That is partly done under the assumption that I will potentially remove the older version from the collection at a later point. (I have items that are replacements for older discs, which are upgrade-releases, and those I consider supplements, whcih happens when not all special features have been carried over.)

Seems that I didn't put the watched tag on all watched DVD's. Also the number of owned is a bit off due to box-sets and child-profiles I guess.

In DVD pro the count is 320 DVD's and 1 VHS ;)
