Had a PM from Northbloke who you may know from Invelos site, he wanted to join but can't get on the site from work, and he advises below.
Got any ideas?

I don't know what you guys get up to on that site, but when I try and access it at work I get an error message saying that the site contravenes my company's security and/or acceptable use policies!

You filthy buggers!

Blimey, they must be strict! I was in charge of the firewall management at my last job and there are several broad areas that would automatically review and block a site, language and content amongst them. We can be a bit sweary and Jimmy holds up his end (oo-er!) when it comes to filth. You don't do bad yourself, what with the xmas calendar! :tease: But still, neither of these ever stopped it working at my place which -if there were such a scale- I would say were at "Medium" settings, so Northbloke's must be even tighter.

I was going to suggest it's worth checking his PCs system tray in case it's a software client based system and he could add exceptions, but the phrase "my company" suggests the message is coming from a central server/firewall. A proper setup. Like what I ran. Until the swines switched it off and made me bloody redundant. :( But that's another story!

If he knows the IT guy well, it would be a doddle to add us to the white list. People sometimes asked me and regardless of the impenetrable legalities of the company's policy, I'd simply look at the site myself and decide.

Siemens blocks all kind of websites: webmailers, youtube, anonymous proxies, porn & warez sites. But this is still getting though.  :P

It must be Jimmy.  :tease:

It's probably me and my reviews
His job firewall is very strict, I don't think that my reviews are that filthy

It may actually be cross-linking as well. Post a link to an image or trailer, that in itself isn't too bad, but the site it comes from is blacklisted because they potentially do contain stronger stuff.

RossRoy

I just hope they don't work like where my Mom works..

What they do is blacklist EVERYTHING, and you have to go through a request procedure to get whatever site you want to go to whitelisted.

Crazy if you ask me, since they can't even get to see their own customer's website, they have to ask permission first, which can take a little while.

This is another message he sent me, with a copy of what he gets when hitting the site from work;

Thanks very much, though I have no problem waiting till I get home, I had no problems there - I'm just having a slow day.
Here's the error message in full:

Yup, it's definitely a server/hardware firewall based system, so he's stuffed!

Unless he can justify a "business" reason to be here ;)

Sounds to me as if work is "giving him the business"! :redcard:

 :thanks:
Bloody hell DJ, I've only just clicked on the activation email - you must be one hell of a typer!

But I'm flattered to see an entire thread about me that didn't require censorship...

As I said in my PMs to Rich, I have no problems at home, I'm guessin my security settings aren't as strict here, either that or my firewall here's given up trying to keep all the filth out!  ;D

The advantage of being an admin and getting an email the moment someone registers. :D
