Actor/Actress Marathons

How about some marathons based on a given actor/actress.  We pick one and then we all watch a certain number of movies within a give number of days.

I would start with Kathy Bates

It doesn't have to be Kathy Bates, could be anyone else.  I was just throwing the idea to see how you all feel about it.

I have Actor/Actress Marathons myself all the time. :)

But out of curiosity... I checked... had more then I thought... according to DVDP I have...

- Annie (actually my daughters... but she would let me see it.)  :P
- Dragon Fly
- Misery
- Stephen King's The Stand (an Uncredited Role)
- Titanic
- The Waterboy

so I could do something at least. :P

Yes, it's a good idea. Might be nice to follow someones lead too. Perhaps one of us has more work from one particular actor and can suggest the ideal selection. Dependant on availability of course! Maybe we can finally answer, "is Tom Hanks a good actor"? :)

Pete, you definitely have have to get "Dolores Clairborne" if you've never seen it, it's one of Bates' best performances.

Jon, I like your suggestion, I think DVDP can help us with that.

I like the idea. It would help discover new movies with actors (male, female or otherwise) we like, or even discover new ones!

Anyone interested in a "Cate Blanchett Marathon" in November ?  I return from New York on the 9th (Friday), my truck and I will be out in the woods the very next morning  ;) so I say the Marathon could start on the 11th.

Here's what I have in mind.  We make a list of all her movies (about 40 I think) and every participant identifies those he/she has never seen.  Then we "match" people in pair and every participant tell his/her counterpart what movies he/she has to watch during the marathon. Since they have to be movies that we haven't seen, there's a good chance that we won't own them so there will be a cost involved in this Marathon which is why I think it would only be fair to let each participant say how many movies he/she wants to watch although we could decide on a minimum.

Whaddaya think?

That's right. Pick a no-name extra for the first one...   ;)

I've been waiting for an excuse to buy Notes on a Scandal.

Are you calling MY favorite actress a "No name Extra" because I said YOUR "Taxi Driver" wasn't that good ?  >:(

Nah, I'm kidding! I like her. Bad mojo for Taxi Driver shall have to be applied in a different way.  :tease: I have Elizabeth, LoTR, and what do you know? I just mentioned Notes on a Scandal and HMV just sent me an email about a 3 for £18 sale and that was one of them! It's on the way.

Kathy just reminded me of The Aviator. It is good, and I did have it, but I didn't think it was good enough to keep. However, hers was a memorable performance. Incredible in fact. Not sure how she will do as Bob Dylan. That's just too freaky an idea for me!

I think she's a very good actress, imo she did extremely good performances in Heaven, Veronica Guerin and Charlotte Gray.
