My Thoughts:
Audio:
NOTE: Keep in mind that I have a very old surround sound system that desperately needs replacing!
No complaints... the audio was dead on through-out the season set.

Video:
NOTE: I have a TV that is less then a year old, but keep in mind all I have is a 20inch standard TV that only cost me just over $100.
Once again... no complaints. No artifacts or dust from what I could tell... everything looked fine to me.

Extras:
I done something with this set that I seldomly do... I watched every single extra on the set!  First was the commentary with the new witch of the season... Billie played by Kaley Cuoco with Brad Kern and James Conway. This commentary told me 2 things... Kaley is one load talker... especially when she gets excited... and yes... she did get excited when she saw herself on TV.  and it told me that Kaley is boy crazy... saying things like who is he and why didn't I get his number? but was an entertaining listen.

Next up was the commentary with Brian Krause.. who plays Leo.  This one was a fun listen... nothing spectacular... but enjoyable all the same. It did show that everyone in the cast and crew really cared about Brian.

Then was the commentary on the final episode of the series. This one had no cast members but it did have a lot of interesting facts... including why they didn't even use a picture of Prue in the final episode. This one is a must listen for all fanatic Charmed fans... such as myself.

The rest was documentaries one one subject or another... this is where we finally see something with Holly, Rose and Alyssa... they are interviewed in each of the featurettes.  But the one that stood out for me was "Charmed Forever"... which also included interviews with a couple of the fans of Charmed.

I won't say how to get to them here... but there is also 3 (that I know of) Hidden Features in this set. So you can enjoy searching for those if you so desire. And of course the promotional previews are just that a collection of trailer for other shows from Paramount.

Show:
What can I say... I absolutely love this series! I have from the pilot episode... and I did right till the last episode that was ever made. There is one big disappointment to this set. That is the fact that for some strange unknown reason... they couldn't use the theme song for the final season of the series!?!? Makes no sense to me!  But over all... I absolutely loved this set! it was a great release for an awesome series! And finally with extras!

Me too. Although I'm taking care of that lately. I'm currently watching Season 3, but Blue Dragon and Eternal Sonata keep getting in the way. But I'm thoroughly enjoying it! I even received The Final Season yesterday! :yahoo:

:hmmmm: Makes me remember that maybe I ought to update my post in the "Complete TV Series" thread. ;)

Oh and Pete.. Nice review!

But maybe you should post how to get to the hidden features in spoiler tags? maybe?

addicted2dvd

to be honest... forgot about spoiler tags!  :P

I just didn't want to spoil anyones fun of finding them their selves...

Sadly, this is happening more and more with a lot of TV series release on DVD. Another victim to the greed of the record labels I guess.

That being said.. I love the new theme! Somehow.. I think it fits! It's a little more ominous, which fits with the overall tone of the season, and there's so much change. I don't know, it did feel right. I'm even at a point where I'm thinking: why didn't they use it for every season!

Granted, I've never watched the show on TV, so the music change doesn't affect me much.

It was the same with Roswell. They changed the music in most episodes, but since I hadn't seen any of it on TV, I didn't know the original music, so the changes to me were right ok!

addicted2dvd

Well you know me... I really couldn't care less about music... but for some reason a TV Show theme is different to me... it is not about the music itself... more about for so many past years that sound indicates that one of my favorite shows is about to start.  I dunno...  don't make real sense.. but it makes some sense to me at least. :P

Yes, I agree that they did pick something that fit well with the show. but just knowing it was changed for the DVD release instead of as aired bugs me a little... I think I would have accepted it more if the change was on TV as well.

And yes of course it is easier if it is a show you see the very first time on DVD... Roswell is a show I never seen till the DVDs. So of course any changes there didn't bother me as much as I didn't know what was missing. also if it is music throughout the story line and not the theme it wouldn't bother me either... as I seldomly even hear (process) that music in my mind... as I pretty much trained myself to ignore most music within episodes.  :P

Question though... did you finish season 8?... if so what did you think of the series finale... especially compared to the season 7 finale?

Thanks! Better safe than sorry ;)
I know there must be a reason for it.. But I liked him! I like how he keeps the girls «grounded» when they start getting trigger happy or depressed. But the Angel of Destiny said there was a reason for it. Guess I should trust it and keep watching!
Cool... you still have plenty to enjoy. :) Once you get that far let me know what you think of the finale... especially compared to season 7 finale (which could have been our series finale).

Sorry to revive this old one  :tease:

Can I say that I'm not really impress with what I've seen at this time with the final season (7 episodes). I hate the generic theme and all the stupid music cue in the episode (I don't need a cue to tell me when something is funny or mysterious). The new girl is really annoying (I don't care about a teenage witch I watch this show for the 3 sisters). The demons are cheap looking (no budget and this is really apparent). The idea of the different identity was good why not continue with it (those new girls were good looking and not use enough).

This is more frustating for me than the change after the season 3. I don't see any amelioration possible and a complete loss of my time, but at least I've the complete serie.

OK I've finally watch the last episode tonight and I will write what I think of it. Since I know that some of you owns the serie and haven't watch it yet I will use the spoilers tag a lot.

I think that everyone here know, at least the oldest members, that I prefer the first three years of this show mostly because it was more serious and darker. Every fans will certainly agree that I'm right here, Shannen Doherty is a much better actress than Rose McGowan (too sad that she had a very bad temper). After her departure I've lost my interest in the serie, but in the beginning of last year I've decided to give it another shot after I've bought the first 3 seasons on dvd. At first I was not really impress with the fourth seasons,
the athmosphere was change : the show turns as a comedy and in the Rose McGowan show. One thing that catch my interest was the relation of love/hate between Cole and Phoebe (I know that some grew tired of it, but not me and I was kind of sad to see it end). So I have continue to watch it untill the end with mixed feelings (many episodes that I don't like at all mostly in the season 6). In the seven seasons my interest was back : finally the show is back to its darker roots with the conflict that Leo had to deal with (sadly comedy return after the Avatar storyline). That brings me to the reason why I don't necessary like the last season : they had the end there. I don't talk about how the seasons 7 end, but the creation of Utopia. I'm sure that it was how the serie was supposed to end for real, at least this is the way I see it : the fight between Good and Evil was over and everyone return to a normal life. Some will not agree because of the second part of the Utopia episode, but I'm sure that this was changed because they got the ok for a last season.

For the last season like I've said I'm not impress and don't see a reason for it. The budget are not there, the storyline isn't really interesting (you have to be honest there : The Triad is dead this is not Santa Barbara! Cole had vanquished them for good). All this situation with the sister of the new witch make no sense at all! Are we suppose to think that no one have see that in the future or that Phoebe is unable to get a premonition about this. Honestly the big battle is really not impressive, all the talk about the greatest clash of all time between the Good and Evil for that. Sure the end is better than the one in the season 7 (even if I'm piss off that no mention of Shannon Doherty is made), but not that great
Now I know that Pete and Sebastien won't agree with me, so tell me why I'm wrong  :P

edit : just doing the profile I've found where I've seen the actress playing the demon in the episode 4 before, she was married with the Michael Damian character in The Young & the Restless (sometimes I watch those soap  :-[)
