When this movie was first released, in 1973, I was only 9 years old and saw it in the theatre of my small hometown.  I didn't remember much of it but it's one of the few movies I remember having seen when I was a boy and I've been wanting to see it again for some time now.

The movie is oop but there's still copies lying here and there so a few weeks ago I placed a special order on inetvideo.com and last week I got an email from them telling me they had located a copy that I could buy for 6.74CAD.  I obviously did, received it last friday and watched it saturday.  I still like the movie but I was surprised at how different it is when you watch it with the eyes of an adult.

As a boy I was impressed by the people going to a special place to die while watching scenes of landscapes and animals and listening to their favorite music.  I was of course also impressed when I found where the Soylent Green came from but I didn't understand the dynamic of the movie which is about a dying planet where nothing grows anymore and where people can't get jobs and food.

I was particularly shocked in one of the scene when Charlton Heston says something about "Greenhouse effect", I never realized that the world has been aware of this for so long.  35 years later we're slowly heading to situations similar to what was depicted in movies from the seventies and, just like they did in those old movies, everybody seems to care except those who can actually make things change.

Interesting..........interesting to see how a movie can get you thinking twice in your life but for completely different reasons.  I'm glad I bought it.

I've never seen that movie, but of course it's one of those case where you've not seen the movie itself, but you already know the ending  Roll Eyes

I do have it on order currently, and I've contacted them and they say they have a few copies on the way.

This is a movie I never gotten to see yet either (and yes of course I know the ending). I may have to keep my eyes open for it in the used stores around here... if not maybe they will release a new edition of it before too long. Something as well known as this... I wouldn't be surprised.

Knowing how Hollywood works these days? They're probably preparing to announce a remake, with a uber-special edition to be released alongside.

In my case... I was reading a thread at a different movie forum a few years back that spoiled it for me. I actually kinda noticed that certain exclamation on several sites when it comes to this movie.

That's how it got spoiled for me. I saw the reference to soylent green a few times, and kept wondering each time what it was about, so I ended up looking it up on google (is "googling it" an accepted word these days?)... spoiled it right there and then.

I remember this movie quite well, originally had it VHS and got it on DVD when it became available. I think it was one of the best sifi of it's day and it's themes still ring true.(Global Warming anyone!)

Great movie, i still say the "line" every so often. Has anyone seen Omega Man or Fahrenheit 451, a couple of other great movies. I saw Fahrenheit 541 when i was in 10th grade, i never forgot the movie,  i saw the laserdisc in a best buy and bought it, of course i had to then go get a laserdisc player so i could watch it.  Smiley  That was a few years ago, i have since purchased these 3 movies on dvd as soon as i found them in a store, i had the dvd player by then.  Smiley
