My latest toy

LG 55UB820V
Only need to do something about the cables now, but since I need a new HDMI cable (2.0 with HDCP 2.2 support) and the HTPC needs a new graphics-card (4k capability) this will have to wait a week or two.

My latest toy. Nerds Candy!
I have a collection.
It can be found here.
No need to check it often.
I update it only twice a year!

Awesome! I am targeting to get a new 55" TV next year. Need to start informing myself sometime soon. Is backlit a good option...?

I want something that has less overscan than my current TV (1.85:1 discs never show any black bars :(). Also 24fps will be nice to have. I don't care for 3D whatsoever.

In Taiwan those curved screens seem to be becoming the next big thing. Not sure if that would really enhance my experience...

LED-Backlight currently is the only affordable alternative to Plasma.

Since nowadays all screens support at least 50Hz (fps) 24 is built-in automatically.

Yupp,
they are trying to sell us these here too.
I'm not convinced though that this will bring any advantages, but I am convinced that this reduces the effectively visibible screen-width (means: a 55" curved screen is "only" as wide as a normal 50" screen).

Had my first test-viewings on the LG now.
TV-signal (Satellite fed in by HTPC @ 1080p) simply looks breath-taking. The internal 4k-upscaling makes even SD-stations look better than Blu-ray quality.
Blu-rays are gaining a new quality ... I don't miss my "old" 50" Plasma at all ...  :yahoo:
(More information will follow as soon as the new 4k-graphics card (GTX750) has arrived)

Overscan on many TVs can be disabled per Input-device.
On your TV-settings check for menu point "Overscan" or "Just Scan"

My now 7-year old Sharp is a nice machine, but it always was a bit barebones in the settings department. I have had single horizontal line showing for quite some time now, but it would only be problematic with bright colors, especially white of course. Now there is two or three of those, so that's why we started to discuss about getting a new one.
