Black Eagle, a review by GSyren

Black Eagle (5-037899-059647)
United States 1988 | Released 2015-05-04 on Bluray from 101 Films
104 minutes | Aspect ratio 1.78:1 | Audio: English Dolby Digital 5.1
Directed by Eric Karson and starring Sho Kosugi, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Doran Clark, Bruce French, Vladimir Skomarovsky

My thoughts about Black Eagle:
Good news, bad news and worse news...

Bad news: This isn't a very good Jean-Claude Van Damme film. It's actually not a JCVD film. It's a Sho Kosugi film with JCVD in a rather minor role.

Worse news: This is not a very good film, period. It's not terrible, it's just not terribly good.

Ok, those tidbits aren't really news, since the movie is a good quarter of a century old. But ...

Good news: The Blu-ray release from 101 Films is absolutely flawless when it comes to image and sound quality. I'm pretty sure that this movie has never looked or sounded better, even in the cinema.

If you're a JCVD completist (or, for that matter, a Sho Kosugi completist) you'll kick yourself if you're in the wrong region without a region free BD player. Or perhaps you'll get the German release, which seems to be region free, but I don't know anything about its quality. For the rest of you - this is a serviceable action movie, but no need to lose sleep over it if you decide to pass it by.
I rate this title

My Thoughts:

Now this is a movie worthy of the cult status it has achieved.

A post apocalyptic world where the survivors scavenge for food while avoiding the likes of mutants and marauders. Vic, a scavenger himself played by a young Don Johnson does his best to get by with his erstwhile companion Blood, a telepathic dog. Vic finds himself drawn to an underground commune of cult like fanatics called Topeka, led by a pasty Jason Robards and the rest of his evil Committee. They tell Vic they want him to impregnate all of their women which he thinks is a dream come true until he discovers their means of extracting his lusty seed.

This is cheesy in all the right ways with a simple plot that is grandly delivered. Thick with ironies, this movie has one of the most memorable endings I've ever seen and having watched this before long ago I almost couldn't wait to get to the end to see it again.

The Flash Marathon, a review by addicted2dvd

The Flash Marathon

Image: Barry behind bars?

Episode 20 - Good Night, Central City
Sweet dreams, citizens. Thieves who possess a sleep-inducing machine plan to pick banks and jewelry stores clean while everyone in Central City experiences a deep slumber.

Guest Stars:
Bill Mumy as Roger Braintree
Richard Belzer as Joe Kline
Matt Landers as Harry Milgrim
Vito D'Ambrosio as Bellows
Biff Manard as Murphy
Mike Genovese as Lt. Warren Garfield

My Thoughts:
A good episode. I did like seeing Barry Allen in a bit of trouble... needing to clear his name. Made for an interesting episode. This one has Bill Mumy in it. I know there was a kid actor in a few episodes of the original Twilight Zone by that name. But I have to wonder if this is the same person or not. I say that because this show was made in 90/91 and he only looked to be in his mid 20s. Though I guess he could have just looked young for his age and be in the mid 30s here. Making it possible I guess.
