Son of Rambow, a review by Tom

Title: Son of Rambow
Year: 2007
Director: Garth Jennings
Rating: 12
Length: 96 Min.
Video: Widescreen 2.35
Audio: English: DTS HD Master Audio, English: Dolby Digital 5.1, Audio Descriptive: Dolby Digital Stereo, Commentary: Dolby Digital Stereo
Subtitles: English

Stars:
Neil Dudgeon
Bill Milner
Jessica Stevenson
Anna Wing
Will Poulter

Plot:
A long English summer in the early '80s and two boys are about to form an unlikely friendship. Will Proudfoot has been brought up in a strictly religious household, forbidden to watch TV or listen to music. But after Lee Carter, the school trouble-maker, blows Will's mind with a pirate copy of Rambo: First Blood, Will's easily persuaded to act in Lee's home made movie sequel. Armed only with a camera "borrowed" from Lee's brother and their limitless imagination, the pair plot stunt after stunt, dodging teachers and family all the way, as they do whatever it takes to finish their masterpiece in time to enter it in the Screen Test competition.

Directed by Garth Jennings (The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy), SON OF RAMBOW is a heart-warming nostalgic comedy about two boys with a big video camera and even bigger ambitions.

Extras:
Aron: Part I
Commentary
Featurettes
Interviews
Scene Access
Trailers
U.S. Competition Winner Footage

My Thoughts:
I enjoyed this movie. The child actors are very good in this film. Especially the one who plays Carter (the left one on the cover). He has monologues which he delivers better than most of the adult actors would.

The Lost, a review by Jimmy

MOVIE / DVD INFO:

Title: The Lost (2005)

Genre:
Director: Chris Sivertson (I Know Who Killed Me)
Rating: Unrated
Length: 1h59
Video: Widescreen
Audio: English
Subtitles: CC

Stars:
Marc Senter (Timecop: The Berlin Decision)
Shay Astar (3rd Rock from the SunElephant)
Megan Henning (I Know Who Killed Me)
Robin Sydney (Masters of Horror - Right to Die)

Plot:
My Thoughts:
It's not often that I decide to buy a recent movie (in fact this one was released this week), but the story seems interesting and I've heard many good things about the book.

I will be pretty short with this review. The story is interesting, but the way is done not. The idea of showing how a killer lost slowly his mind because of the guilt is interesting (but maybe it's not what the director wants to do). Now, I will go with what I don't like in this movie. The actor playing Ray Pye (Marc Senter) is a bad actor : he overact, he have no facial expression and he can't render an emotion (sorry but the end is awfull). The music doesn't help the movie at all, none of the song help the mood they're just there to be there. The use of a song in a movie for me need a reason otherwise why bother. I hate the MTV editing, this is not a proof of talent any talentless director can do that (it's not a surprise to see what is the other directing job of Sivertson). Another thing, why use grainy image if they're no reasons to do it? Just because it's cool. ::)

Just a last thing about the movie resume : I probably don't know what is a co-star in a movie. Dee Wallace is in there less than 2 minutes and everybody could have played her role. Misty Mundae is just there to get naked (not that it's something bad) and get killed, certainly not a staring role for me.

Just another exemple of why American cinema doesn't work anymore. A talentless director who know nothing about how to make a movie, except what he have seen on MTV. Sorry a movie is a movie, not a fucking video clip or a publicity.

If you are not bother as much as me with this way to do a movie it's possible that you could like it, since the story is good. But if you are like me, I don't recommand this one at all.

Smallville Marathon #2, a review by DJ Doena

Disc 4

Suspect
Synopsis: Lionel Luthor gets shot twice and a drunk Jonathan Kent is the prime suspect. All evidence points to him but Clark believes in his innocence. In the end there are four people who had a motive to kill Lionel but none of them was the culprit.

My Opinion: I am not too much into crime stories and didn't like this story that much.

Rush
Synopsis: During a cave rave party a student is stung by something and in an adrenaline rush he jumps from a great height and dies. Pete is also stung and starts to behave similarly. When Clark and Chloe investigate in that matter Chloe becomes the third victim and then Pete infects Clark with red kryptonite - and the party begins.

My Opinion: This was a great episode, I liked Chloe's style. Unfortunately it's once again Clark who can't give an explanation for his behaviour. Sometimes the "relationship" of Clark and Lana is a bit annoying because the writers do everything in their power to bring them not together. But the "party" part of this episode was really great so I can overlook this annoyance. Of course they had to draw the forgetfulness card to undo Chloe's knowledge.

Prodigal
Synopsis: Lex has finally found his half-brother Lucas and wants to ally with him against their father. But Lionel has found him first and he and Lucas manage to squeeze out Lex. Lex is broken and has to leave the mansion. There's only one place he can go: The Kent farm.

My Opinion: It was cool to see Lex do an honest job on the farm. And Lucas had a valid point when he asked how much personality of the parents is reflected in the children. Another interesting question is whether or not Lionel could already see again during Insurgence because that would mean that he has witnessed Clark's powers firsthand.

Fever
Synopsis: Martha tries to hide the key to the spaceship - the octagonal disc - in the storm cellar. But there she inhalates meteor-infested spores and gets very ill. When the Disease Control Agency wants to search the farm, Clark has to hide the spaceship at Pete's house. But Clark gets infected, too and they can't bring him to a hospital.

My Opinion: Another episode that I liked a lot, especially the part where Clark was sick and both women had to think about how they feel about him. That's one thing I find interesting about the characters: Both Lana and Chloe don't like that Clark keeps secrets from them yet both aren't totally honest to him either when it comes to their feelings.
