Sucker Punch , a review by Silence_of_Lambs

Sucker Punch (Extended Cut)

Summary:
A young girl (Emily Browning) is locked away in a mental asylum by her abusive stepfather (Gerard Plunkett) where she will undergo a lobotomy in five days' time. Faced with unimaginable odds, she retreats to a fantastical world in her imagination where she and four other female inmates at the asylum, plot to escape the facility. The lines between reality and fantasy blur as Baby Doll and her four companions, as well as a mysterious guide, fight to retrieve the five items they need that will allow them to break free from their captors before it's too late...

My Thoughts:
I had a premiere tonight!

What happens if you give a man that adapted 2 great comic books into visually stunning movies the chance to visualize his own script?
You get a visually stunning Nothing!
The story is as (un)-complex as the Overview promises which in fact should be marked as a spoiler. The plot is easily foreseeable, probably for not distracting you from the beauty of the pictures, which nevertheless only ever look like "Sin City" with more colour.

What we see has the look and feel of a premature wet dream. Barely dressed beauties are pole-dancing while trying to collect 5 items.
The fifth item the girls have to find is the answer to the question: WHY?
I failed on my personal "Why?", which was "Why should I want to watch this movie to the end?"
I didn't find any answer and drew the matching conclusion: For the first time I stopped a movie! Hell, I even made it through Astro Boy.

It's probably as Roger Murtaugh once said: "I'm too old for this shit!"
Or (to repeat myself from another review):
Quote
A note that every director (especially this one) should have attached to his bathroom mirror is: "If you don't have a story to tell: DON'T MAKE A MOVIE!"

My Rating:
:puke:

I See You.com, a review by addicted2dvd

     I See You.com (2006/United States)

Length:93 min.
Rating:NR
Video:Anamorphic Widescreen 1.85:1
Audio:English: Dolby Digital: 5.1

Stars:
Beau Bridges as Harvey Bellinger
Rosanna Arquette as Lydia Ann Layton
Mathew Botuchis as Colby Allen
Shiri Appleby as Randi Sommers
Dan Castellaneta as Jim Orr
Baelyn Neff as Audrey Bellinger

Plot:
Before YouTube...before MySpace...before Facebook there was I-SEE-YOU.com and Colby Allen (Mathew Botuchis), the teen who invented user-generated content by secretly installing nanny-cams in his parents' home and turning his family into the internet's first Live Feed! reality show.

Pocketing a cool $17K a week, Colby convinces his parents (Beau Bridges and Rosanna Arquette) that dysfunction sells. Something else sells, too: the vid stream of Colby's 18-year old stepsister Audrey (Baelyn Neff), whose unwitting on-cam display of assets launches his enterprise in a big way. Nothing good on TV? Log on. The Belingers are just getting started.

Extras:
  • Scene Access
  • Feature Trailers
  • Bonus Trailers
  • Deleted Scenes
  • Featurettes

My Thoughts:
This one was in a box of DVDs that was given to me a while back ago. And another one I had mixed feelings about. It definitely had it's moments. But I didn't find it to be as funny as I was expecting it to be. I did enjoy seeing Shiri Appleby in this film, think this may have been the first thing I seen her in since Roswell. Over-all I would say worth checking out once.... not sure I would recommend buying.

My Rating:
Out of a Possible 5

The One Where It All Began: The Pilot Marathon, a review by DJ Doena

Since I've purchased quite a number of new TV shows, I thought to resurrect this marathon.

V (1983)

What's the show about?
A group of underground rebels fights against an alien race who have invaded Earth without making it appear as such. The resistance cell is a motley crew with all kinds of backgrounds and their goal is it to expel the aliens again. And their sign is the "V" - for "Victory!".

"V"
One day a number of huge space ships appear all over the world. But they don't come as enemies, but as friends. In exchange for a certain chemical the aliens give us cures for all kinds of diseases and improve our technology. But the aliens and their intentions are not what they appear to be.

My Opinion
The show comprises of the two mini-series V (1983), V: The Final Battle (1984) and the one-season-show V (1984). It has aged quite well, the storytelling stands out for a show of its time and the special effects don't look that bad, either. It's still very watchable and that the subject is still interesting is proven by the fact that a remake of the show will come to television land this fall.
