Cannibal Ferox, a review by Jimmy

Title : Cannibal Ferox (1981)

Overview
'They were cold, sadistic killers who thought they could hide from justice. But now they must face the harsh law of the jungle...'

Shot on location in the savage Amazon wilds of South America, CANNIBAL FEROX is one of the most violent and shocking films ever made. There are at least two dozen scenes of barbaric torture and sadisctic cruelty graphically shown. If the presentation of disgusting and repulsive subject matter upsets you, please do not view this film.

'They must now pay for their crimes with blood and pain. For what they have done, MAKE THEM DIE SLOWLY.'

My Impression
One of my favorite ;D
In the seventies and eighties the italian cannibals movie were big hit, but hard to find. It cost me a lot to buy this one the first time on vhs, it's hard to believe for the youngest here but when we were young the only way to get those films was to do a lot of research and had good contact, of course now it's easier since you can find almost everything by using your keyboard. This film is the typical cannibal movie filled with violence, blood, bad dubbing (sadly) and animal killing (please no comments on this, I don't want another useless animal debate). The film is shot on location in Colombia (in fact it's were Cannibal Holocaust and The Green Inferno were filmed also) wich bring a lot of realism since real indians tribe members act in the movie and also in New-York (wich give us the chance to see Robert Kerman again in a "mainstream" role). If you are familliar with the italian exploitation cinema you will recognize many visages : Giovanni Lombardo Radice (a great guy who is nothing like the image he shown in those films), Lorraine De Selle, Zora Kerova, Venantino Venantini and Perry Pirkanen among others. Some of the scenes are hard to watch and the hardest is definitely the death scene of Zora Kerova.

Great film (but not as good as Cannibal Holocaust is), but certainly not for everybody. This isn't for nothing if this is one of the few movies rated 18+ here.

The Long Goodbye, a review by GSyren

The Long Goodbye (5-027035-010717)
United States 1973 | Released 2013-12-16 on Bluray from Arrow Academy, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM)
112 minutes | Aspect ratio Non-anamorphic 2.35:1 | Audio: English PCM Mono, Special Effects PCM Mono
Directed by Robert Altman and starring Elliott Gould, Nina Van Pallandt, Sterling Hayden, Mark Rydell, Henry Gibson

My thoughts about The Long Goodbye:
I feel a bit guilty for not loving The Long Goodbye. Perhaps I just had the wrong expectations. I knew that many people rated this film so very highly. I'm not sure what it was about it that didn't click with me. I really liked Elliott Gould as Philip Marlowe, though. The story seemed a bit convoluted, but then again so do many film noir stories. Well, maybe it was just the wrong film at the wrong time for me.
I rate this title

My Thoughts:
I am still enjoying this series. I think the transition from High School to University went well in this series. In the audio commentaries for season 4 they said they were trying not to pull the same stunt as a lot of other series were doing. I.e. that there is suddenly a university in town where all main characters are going to. Though they didn't exactly do this here, they still managed to put all main characters to the same city (Boston). This started with finding a way why Jack and Jen did not go to New York as originally planned. Then Pacey showing up in Boston and finally for Dawson to quit UCLA to also be in Boston.

Now a small review on the character developments this season (spoilers ahead):

Dawson:
The beginning of this season Dawson had to deal with the sudden death of his father. Mitch (played by "The Flash" actor John Wesley Shipp) was always one of my favorite TV dads so I was a little sad to see him go.
Later on Dawson had a small relationship with Jen. It was okay to get them together for a short while. It shows that they just do not click. Then Dawson pulled a miracle (or it is strange TV timelime): He made a great movie based on a phone book sized screenplay in just a few days. He even changed the main star half-way through without a problem.

Joey:
She seems to be in her element in college. Also her love interests were fun to watch. First she almost started a relationship with her professor. And later on she tamed a resident womanizer.

Jen:
Besides her relationship with Dawson and her starting hosting a radio show, nothing much happened.

Jack:
He joined a fraternity, became an asshole, started drinking and finally pulled himself together again.

Pacey:
Starts working at a noble restaurant and becomes quite a big shot there, until he looses his job at the end of the season. Towards the end he starts a relationship with Audrey.

Audrey:
Joey's new roommate. She is one of the reasons I finally went ahead to watch this series. Because I was curious about her. She is played by Busy Phillips who was part of the cast in Freaks & Geeks. It is a fun character to watch. The friendship which develops between her and Joey is nice. Also her relationship with Pacey seems right.
