Dark Light, a review by Jimmy

Title : Dark Light (1993)

Overview
A tale of intense vampire action!

My Impression
The problem with this one is the budget, more money could make it so much better. The basic idea is interesting :  the army had done a secret research to create a race of super soldiers, they had used a vampire as a guinea pig to combine is strength with the human strenght (the real army experiment on thing as insane as this in real life). The experience had succeed with the creation of a vampire race who can live in daylight. But when the human-vampire hybrid break out they have to retrieve him and keep it secret. That sound like a pretty good film on paper, but on the screen not so. Nothing really happen and the action is absent. Too bad that this idea was not developed better...

Rating :

P.S : I'm not sure if this movie is really Zombie Genocide, but I'm unable to find another film done by the Irish director Andrew Harrison. Maybe one of our British members can help me with this?

My Thoughts

I know this isn't considered horror by many people, but it fits for me.  I think the movie is heavily inspired by Frankenstein, and the story has an different twist to the story of a mad scientist.  The story still has some dark overtones, though it is mostly family friendly.  I think the story is entertaining and makes for a good animated movie.  It won't appeal to everyone though.  The animation is done well, though it isn't as good as what Pixar does.  Music does end up being important to what is going on since Eva decides she is going to be an actress and is preparing for an audition for Annie.  There is a rather unique performance of the song Tomorrow late in the movie.

This is an entertaining movie that I enjoy.

I did get a review posted on Epinions after seeing the movie in the theater originally.

The One Where It All Began: The Pilot Marathon, a review by DJ Doena

21 Jump Street

What's the show about?
Young cops in their early twenties - who look even more younger than they are - are going undercover in high schools to investigate crimes that happen there - drug dealings, extortion, car thefts, ... The unit works out of an old chapel on Jump Street. Sometimes they go into a school alone, sometimes as buddies, sometimes as enemies. But in the end they bust the bad guys.

"Pilot"
Officer Tom Hanson has a problem: He looks younger than he is and his colleagues and (what's worse) criminals don't take him seriously. Even though he has now a partner who is willing to work with him the captain can't risk his officers getting hurt or killed. But he has a solution: Hanson is transferred to an undercover unit where he meets his future partners: the officers Doug Penhall, Harry Ioki, the beautiful Judy Hoffs and their captain who was in Woodstock.

My Opinion
It was a cool show for its time but I bought the first season only for sentimental reasons. Now and then an episode is ok, but I wouldn't watch the entire show again. Still I enjoyed seeing Johnny Depp and Peter DeLouise in their early roles again. DeLouise (son of Dom DeLouise) has mostly stopped acting but instead became a director and producer, most notably on Stargate SG-1 where he has the occasional cameo.

And I don't think I have to say much about Depp:
