General / Buffalo Garden Walk
« on: July 30, 2013, 06:48:12 PM »
One of the things I look forward to are the annual Buffalo Garden Walks running from June 21st to August 4th.

These free self-guided tour of thousands of urban gardens and historic neighborhoods. These garden walks are one of the most unique urban events in America and is the largest garden tour in the United States.

These walks include Buffalo’s 1868 Frederic Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux-designed parks, parkways and circles, the Buffalo Japanese Garden as well as the Delaware Park Rose Garden.

The best part of the walks are the residents who open their homes and gardens for the walking public.

Here are some pictures from last weekends walk:

We even made the NY Times!

General / Weird weather
« on: July 21, 2013, 01:07:45 AM »
Buffalo has been having very strange weather lately. After almost constant rain for weeks, June showers?, we've had record highs in the 90s this week.

Last night the rains returned with a vengeance.

The storm destroyed a few homes, many trees and left thousands without any power.

The best way to get around some city streets would be by canoe.

The storm finally left this morning.

Jimmy has a ruptured appendix and was just taken to surgery will be hospitalized for 5-7 days.

My brother will be staying with him during the day and I'll be with him at night - starting tonight.

Please keep him in your thoughts - I'm really worried.

Movie Reviews / The Sessions
« on: April 01, 2013, 12:17:48 AM »

Overview: Academy Award® Winner Helen Hunt joins Academy Award® Nominees John Hawkes and William H. Macy in this triumphant true story about love, sex, desire...and making every breath count.

Paralyzed and confined to an iron lung since childhood, poet-journalist Mark O'Brien (Hawkes) has overcome adversity time and time again. But now, at age 38, he faces his toughest challenge yet: losing his virginity. With the help of a beautiful therapist (Hunt), a sympathetic priest (Macy), and his own unbridled sense of optimism and humor, Mark embarks on an extraordinary personal journey to discover the wondrous pleasures that make life worth living.

My thoughts: I seldom write reviews - I find it difficult to put my thoughts into words. But, every once in a while I want to share my viewing experience - especially when few people have written about it.

I have always enjoyed films that are based on real people and their experiences - the bonus features for this movie even introduces us to some of them.

If you are a viewer who dislikes films that has sex or involves nudity this film is not for you. They are an integral part of the characters and their journey and this movie could not be told without them.

There are few films that can make me laugh out loud. Even fewer have moved me to tears. This movie did both.

The Sessions is special.
