X-Men: The Last Stand, a review by DJ DoenaJanuary, 8th Hugh Jackman ... Logan / Wolverine Halle Berry ... Ororo Munroe / Storm Ian McKellen ... Eric Lehnsherr / Magneto Patrick Stewart ... Professor Charles Xavier Famke Janssen ... Jean Grey / Phoenix Anna Paquin ... Marie / Rogue Kelsey Grammer ... Dr. Henry 'Hank' McCoy / Beast James Marsden ... Scott Summers / Cyclops Rebecca Romijn ... Raven Darkholme / Mystique Shawn Ashmore ... Bobby Drake / Iceman Aaron Stanford ... John Allerdyce / Pyro Vinnie Jones ... Cain Marko / Juggernaut Ellen Page ... Kitty Pryde Synopsis: A "cure" has been found to "heal" the mutants. And while some mutants like Rogue want to be healed most of them don't see their abilities not as a disease that has to be cured. And Magneto will do anything in his power to destroy what he sees as poison for his kind. But the X-Men have problems of their own: Jean has returned as Phoenix and she's already killed Cyclops. Can she be stopped? My Opinion: A not so good conclusion to the overall very good trilogy. There were too many things I didn't really like about it and most of them are connected to the Phoenix: Scott's death (offscreen, too!), Xavier's character change, Jean's character change, Xavier's death, ... I know that the "Dark Phoenix" story is part of the comics but not everything that works in a comic works in a movie, too. Especially when it has never been mentioned before. If they had really wanted to conlcude the series this way they would have dropped hints in the first two installments. This goes also for this sudden classification: What the heck is a "class 3 mutant"? I have told you before that I am not really good with faces that I have a hard time to recognize a person if I haven't seen him or her that often before. What helps is that I have a good recognition of voices, so I often recognize an actor even if he wears an alien mask or something else. And so it was with the Kitty Pryde of this movie. I heard her voice and instantly said "Hey, that's Juno!" and so it was. Thought I would just go with anything from my collection.... as the mood hits. Whether I seen it or not... whether it is old or new... no matter the genre or who is in it. All is fair game this weekend! So this weekend I watched... Unholy 'Adrienne Barbeau' (of THE FOG, SWAMP THING and CREEPSHOW fame) and 'Nicholas Brendon' (Xander of 'BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER') star in this provocative shocker about a mother's investigation into the grisly suicide of her daughter. But what begins as a family tragedy will soon lead to a conspiracy of bizarre crimes, occult carnage and a necromancer who may control a dark new trinity of warfare. How far would our government go to harness a Nazi legacy of paranormal power? Has the U.S. military secretly attempted to develop time travel, invisibility and mind-control as weapons? The answers wait in a mind-blowing journey that will take one woman from the trauma of the unimaginable to the ultimate horror of the 'UNHOLY'. My Thoughts: This movie was a blind buy. The only thing I saw was the trailer online one day. It looked interesting so thought I would check it out. This movie wasn't terrible... but was far from great. I would say it is no more then an OK movie. I actually found it to be a bit on the weird side. I have become a fan of Adrienne Barbeau... though she didn't do her best work in this movie. I like Nicholas Brendon as Xander in the Buffy series... and this is the first time I seen him in another role. I thought he did a pretty good job in this movie... just wish it was a better movie for him to shine in. Over-all I would score this movie at about a 5 out of 10 rating. I would say if you are curios about this one... wait and catch it on cable. (From Weekend Movie Marathon 1/18 - 1/20 on January 18th, 2008) Angel Marathon, a review by addicted2dvdAngel: Season 5 6. The Cautionary Tale of Numero Cinco Original Air Date: 11/5/2003 Feeling disconnected from his real mission to be a hero for the people, Angel befriends an elderly mail clerk at the firm who was once a hero too and who feels the same way. Guest Stars: Danny Mora Bruno Gioiello My Thoughts: This one never really impressed me that much. Found it to be a bit slow and uninteresting. Probably one of my least favorite of any I have watched so far. My Rating: (From Angel Marathon on March 22nd, 2010) |
