SOURCE CODE, a review by VirtualScot

SOURCE CODE

Back to form for Sci-Fi?

Duncan Jones is back with his second feature length film, after his critically acclaimed debut, low budget British Sci-Fi Moon. Staring Jake Gyllenhaal as Colter Stevens with Michelle Monaghan as Christina Warren, Vera Farmiga as Colleen Goodwin, and a small part from Jeffrey Wright as Dr. Rutledge. Colter (Gyllenhaal) is tasked to find the bomber of a Chicago commuter train by entering the mind of a passenger 8 minutes before the bomb detonates through a new technology called the source code.

In the hands of any other director it is clear that Source Code would have been another generic Sci-Fi, with a good concept but lacking in depth. However Duncan Jones saves us from this. Turning Source Code into something modern, moving and simply beautiful. There are a few plot holes here and there, but your cynicism soon melts away at the sheer depth of emotion. And the perfectly timed thought provoking questions that arise as the film progresses.

Questioning the nature of our reality, exploitation and valuing the time we have are a few of themes that come up in this film. It's hard to go into detail without ruining ones experience of this film. To sum it up i was compelled to almost lift myself out my seat as the credits rolled, and burst into rapturous applause.

Duncan Jones has now well and truly put himself on the map as one of the best directors working today. You owe it to yourself to see this film at least once.

My Thoughts:
I didn't enjoy this one as much as the last ones. The characters came off as a little uneven. Also the story wasn't really that interesting. Also for me it came out of nowhere that Harry Potter suddenly is such an experienced wizard that he could teach all the others.

Ghost Whisperer Marathon, a review by addicted2dvd

Disc 2:

5. A GRAVE MATTER
On Halloween, Melinda is visited by the ghost of an author who claims he is in the wrong grave, while Delia is visited by a ghostlooking for her handbag.

My Thoughts:
Ohhhh a Halloween episode. I just love Halloween episodes of TV Series! This is a really good one... even though they do downplay Halloween in it. Kinda just in the background. The story was good though.

6. THE WOMAN OF HIS DREAMS
Jim is haunted by a beautiful model who died having plastic surgery, and who may be trying to warn her younger sister not to follow in her footsteps.

My Thoughts:
a good episode. This time it is Jim's turn to help a ghost... only Melinda isn't around much to help him out! She is visiting her mother... who just had an operation herself.

7. A VICIOUS CIRCLE
While camping with Jim, Melinda encounters a mother who died in a snowstorm, who is determined to protect the daughter she supposedly abandoned.

My Thoughts:
A good episode... but not great. I think it could have been better.

8. THE NIGHT WE MET
Melinda worries that the ghost of a man who died in a fire may now be an arsonist. She's also worried that Jim forgot the anniversary of the night they met.

My Thoughts:
This episode I liked a lot... not only is it a good story when it comes to the ghost... but I also really enjoyed seeing how Melinda and Jim got together. And I loved how Jim toyed with Melinda... acting like he forgot the anniversary of when they met. Something like I would do... used to make Dawn (my late wife) nuts!
