Enthiran, a review by Tom
Stars: Super Star Rajni Aishwarya Rai Bachan Plot: A human who is not born but is created. He can dance, sing, fight, is water and fire resistant. He can do all that a human can and more. He feeds on electricity. He takes instructions literally. Where a human can lie to save himself this andro-humanoid robot Chitti cannot lie. Where he has a razor sharp memory and can memorize an entire telephone directory by just running through the pages, he cannot understand human emotions. Dr. Vasi upgrades Chitti’s processor and simulates human emotions without realizing the repercussions. Chitti gets transformed. He can now feel, and the first feeling that he discovers is Love. Will this love come in the way of Dr. Vasi’s purpose of creating Chitti? Will Dr. Vasi’s own creation destroy him? Extras:
My Thoughts: This Kollywood movie is currently the most expensive Indian movie. From the cast I only know the female lead which is the Bollywood star Aishwarya Rai.This movie is fun. Especially the inventive action scenes, even if the CGI used is not yet the same standard as in Hollywood productions. But I have to credit them how they managed to put the same actor with multiple roles in the same scenes without it being noticable. Besides playing the scientist who built the robot, the male lead also plays the robot. And also the hundreds of the replicas of this robot. The action gets crazy at times. But the craziest (but fun) part was how the robot seeks out a mosquito and talks it into going to apologize for biting the girl. Sounds really crazy, but it is surprisingly well done. Stars: Kelly Albanese as Party Girl #1 Michael Childers as Father Brionne Davis as The Driver Edmund Entin as Twin #2 Gary Entin as Twin #1 Joey Mendicino as Jesse Plot: Unrated/Uncut terror ahead - don't miss the off-ramp! En route to Hollywood, runaway lovers Jess and Nicole make an unscheduled pit stop into the lair of a madman who has his ripping, slashing, drilling tools at the ready. Stop awhile, but don't expect rest as director John Shiban (writer/executive producer of Supernatural) keeps the shocks and twists coming in Rest Stop: Dead Ahead (Side A). There's no rest for the wicked as more unsuspecting young travelers exit into the killer's domain in Rest Stop: Don't Look Back (Side B). The roadtrippers are not alone. The roaming RV of living corpses is back, and the vengeance-seeking ghosts of Jesse and Nicole show up too! Extras:
My Thoughts: After watching the first part I figured I may as well watch part two as well and get this DVD complete out of my unwatched pile. This one I didn't care for quite as much as the first one. That could be because I didn't care for the one character in this one. The guy that went with them to search for Nicole and Jess... driving his own car. Other then that... not a bad movie. Like the first one... this one has a bit of decent gore... but not a whole lot. There is one alternate ending this time... which is not bad... but think they went with the right one once again. Over all.... nothing really great here... just an average horror movie. My Rating: Out of a Possible 5 (From Weekend Movie Marathon: Unseen Horrors on July 24th, 2011) My PILOT Marathon, a review by RichGavin & Stacey - Series One Episode One Meet Gavin And Stacey. They've spoken on the phone for six months but never actually met until Stacey travels from Wales to London to meet Gavin. Gavin turns up with Smithy who is skeptical about the whole thing and Stacey's mate Nessa who couldn't care either way, to be honest, and is more concerned about a night out. Gavin is an ordinary boy from Essex, Stacey is an ordinary girl from Barry, South Wales. Although they've spoken on the phone every day at work for months, they've never actually met... until now. But when Gavin and Stacey finally meet and their ordinary worlds collide, we see, through their friends, their family and their differences, that there's no such thing as ordinary after all. Gavin and Stacey is the hit BBC show starring Alison Steadman, Rob Brydon, Larry Lamb, Joanna Page, Mathew Horne, Melanie Walters, James Corden and Ruth Jones. A brilliant comedy show I am no stranger to, having watched haphazard series one episodes on TV. Having watched the 1st pilot episode, I immediately watched the next 2, that is how good this is. Everything about this just gets it right. The writing is fresh, original and damnright hilarious. The actors have been chosen perfectly, and no doubt scripts written to enhance the characters they portray so wonderfully. You (in UK) can relate to so many of the characters, I used to have a m8 just like Smithy in every way, and know many couples like Gavs parents! It is the type of show that you talk about the next day, talking about the funniest instances and some really classic lines, especially from Ruth Jones. It leaves a smile on your face, and no higher compliment to a comedy can be paid. I hope this works for other countries, would love to hear if other nationalities 'get this' comedy style. Highly, highly recommended. As a taster, one-off charity special sketch of Smithy with England football team (From My PILOT Marathon on September 23rd, 2009) |
