Evelyn, a review by Rich

fighting the system in Ireland...

Times are tough in Dublin, Ireland. But no one has it tougher than Desmond Doyle when his wife runs off and his beloved daughter Evelyn and two young sons are sent to an orphanage by the government. Enlisting the help of loyal friends (Julianna Margulies, Stephen Rea) and a feisty American lawyer (Aidan Quinn), he takes his case to Ireland's Supreme Court in a history-making quest to topple an ironclad law...and win back custody of his children.

An uplifting film. Acting quality and direction is superb - Sophie Vavasseur who plays Evelyn is outstanding. The story pulls at your emotions in a clever way yet the script always remains believable. 50's Dublin setting is very atmospheric and all characters maintain their credibility throughout, you find yourself wanting to boo and hiss the judge and nun. The only reason this didn't get an 8 was Brosnans awful accent  ::)  7/10

I Am Legend, a review by RossRoy

I Am Legend
Alphabet Marathon - July 2010 - Entry #10
WHAT THEY SAY
The last man on earth is not alone. Will Smith plays that lone survivor in 'I Am Legend', the action epic fusing heart-pounding excitement with a mind-blowing vision of a desolate Manhattan. Somehow immune to an unstoppable, incurable virus, military virologist Robert Neville (Smith) is now the last human survivor in New York City and maybe the world. Mutant plague victims lurk in the shadows...watching Neville's every move...waiting for him to make a fatal mistake. Neville is driven by only one remaining mission: to find an antidote using his own immune blood. But he knows he is outnumbered...and quickly running out of time.

MY THOUGHTS
Pretty interesting movie. As usual, I didn't care too much for the CGI creatures, but as CGI creatures go they were OK.

But the rest of the movie is very good. Will Smith gives a great performance here as our main protagonist. I especially like how he plays with the fine line between mental breakdown and being strong to find the cure. I also liked the idle banter with the mannequins.

I watched the alternate ending. Meh! What the alternate ending suggests would've made a much better ending, but the CGI creature cannot render it convincingly. So the decision to go with a Hollywood ending is the right one in this case.

Tom's Buffy and Angel Marathon, a review by Tom

07. The Initiative (1999-11-16)
Writer: Douglas Petrie (Writer)
Director: James A. Contner
Cast: Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy Summers), Nicholas Brendon (Xander Harris), Alyson Hannigan (Willow Rosenberg), Seth Green (Oz), Anthony Stewart Head (Giles), Marc Blucas (Riley Finn), Mercedes McNab (Harmony Kendall), Adam Kaufman (Parker Abrams), Bailey Chase (Graham Miller), Leonard Roberts (Forest Gates), Lindsay Crouse (Maggie Walsh), Mace Lombard (Tom), Scott Becker (Lost Freshman)

A very fun episode. We are introduced to the initiative. We have a very fun "fight" between Xander and Harmony. And the best thing is Willow trying to cheer up Spike after his "under-performance".

08. Pangs (1999-11-23)
Writer: Jane Espenson (Writer)
Director: Michael Lange
Cast: Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy Summers), Nicholas Brendon (Xander Harris), Alyson Hannigan (Willow Rosenberg), Seth Green (Oz), Anthony Stewart Head (Giles), Marc Blucas (Riley Finn), Mercedes McNab (Harmony Kendall), Emma Caulfield (Anya), Leonard Roberts (Forrest Gates), Bailey Chase (Graham Miller), Tod Thawley (Houss, Chumash Spirit), David Boreanaz (Angel), Margaret Easley (Curator), William Vogt (Jamie), Mark Ankeny (Dean Guerrero)

A episode I never really liked. Though it has some fun stuff in it. I love all the scenes with Spike. And this episode is the reason for a funny line in the Buffy musical.
