Super, a review by addicted2dvdWatched On: 3/10/2013
Stars: Rainn Wilson as Frank Darbo Ellen Page as Libby Liv Tyler as Sarah Kevin Bacon as Jacques Gregg Henry as Detective John Felkner Michael Rooker as Abe Plot: When sad-sack loser Frank (Rainn Wilson, The Office), a short-order cook, sees his ex-addict wife (Liv Tyler, The Lord of the Rings) willingly snatched away by a seductive drug dealer (Kevin Bacon), he finds himself bereft and unable to cope. But he decides to fight back under the guise of a do-it-yourself superhero called Crimson Bolt. With a red hand-made suit, a wrench, a crazed sidekick named Boltie (Ellen Page, Juno) - and absolutely nothing in the way of superpowers - Crimson Bolt beats his way through the mean streets of crime in hopes of saving his wife. My Thoughts: This is one that I got from the library... it is one I have been curious about every since it was originally released. I have to say... it was different then I was expecting. I didn't hate it... but I wasn't thrilled with it either. The weird thing about it is that I can't really pinpoint what it was about this film that I liked and what it was about this film that I didn't care for. I can say that I never been much of a fain of Rainn Wilson... but I don't really think that was the problem here. I think part of the problem was the characters was a little too much over the top for my taste. My Rating: Out of a Possible 5 (From What Movies I Been Watching on March 20th, 2013) Pagan Love Song, a review by Danae CassandraPagan Love Song Year of Release: 1950 Directed By: Robert Alton Starring: Esther Williams, Howard Keel, Minna Gombell, Charles Mauu, Rita Moreno Genre: Romance, Musical Overview: Island girl Esther plans to leave Tahiti, but maybe she'll have a reason to stay when Howard Keel arrives. Gorgeous, frothy fun with pristine Hawaiian locations filling in for Tahiti. My Thoughts: This is a pretty average Esther Williams vehicle. The singing - which is almost all on the part of Howard Keel - isn't bad, and the chorus of "The House of Singing Bamboo" is actually kinda catchy. The plot is very standard - boy meets girl, boy makes assumptions about girl, girl makes fool of boy, boy and girl fall in love. The highlight is the water ballet dream sequence, which is trippy but delightful. If the plot and characters are nothing special, the painful part of the film is the condensation with which the native characters are treated. Yes, I know this is from 1950, and I do try to make allowances for that, but it's still painful to watch in this day and age. Bechdel Test: Pass Mako Mori Test: Fail Overall: 2.5/5 (From July Movie Marathon: Musicals (Yes... You read right!) on July 27th, 2016) Psych: The Complete Fifth Season, a review by addicted2dvd

My Thoughts: Last night I finished the fifth season of this series. I am still enjoying it quite a bit. Lots of good laughs and some interesting cases as well. This season also has a nice selection of extras as usual. And this season they dropped the montages. Which I have no problem with at all... as that is one extra I never seen the sense in. I mean all it is... is clips from different episodes in the season within a certain theme. I just watched the entire season... why do I now want to watch clips from the episodes I just watched? Now that I am all caught up with the DVDs I need to see about watching the current season episodes that has aired... this way I can start watching this show as it airs. My Rating: Out of a Possible 5 (From Addicted2dvd's Random TV Series Watched on January 8th, 2012) |
