Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, a review by Dragonfire

I enjoyed Transformers for the most part when it came out, though I did think it had some issues.  I've been wanting to see Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.  I wasn't expecting it to be anything more than an entertaining action movie.  It makes a decent mindless action movie but it has some issues.

Some of the Autobots, including Optimus Prime, have been working with a secret organization that was formed to deal with the Decepticons that are still on Earth.  The Decepticons have a new plan that involves them tracking down Megatron and bringing him back.

Sam is getting ready to go to college without his girlfriend Mikaela and Bumblee, his Autobot protector.  Sam ends up with information that the Decepticons need to implement their plan, so he becomes a target again.  That wrecks his plans for trying to have a normal life.

The movie is long, but the plot is really simple, with much of what is shared just being there to serve as filler between the action scenes.  A few things are introduced, like Mikaela's father being back, that ultimately add nothing to the movie.  The plot really is rather thin, which makes the movie weaker.  I do think it was a bit too long.  There is nothing serious about the movie.  There are several things added for humor and while they were funny, many of them were a bit crude or silly.

The action scenes are entertaining and mostly well done, though there are so many action scenes that they get a bit overbearing.  The special effects lose some of their impact and coolness because of that.  Michael Bay isn't one of my favorite directors and his style hasn't changed.  He still uses tons of quick cuts which makes it very difficult to tell what is going on at times.  The camera work is shaky in several scenes, something else that bugs me.  There are so many quick cuts in a some sequences, that some things just pass in a blur.  I really hate that.

The acting is fine, though nothing really great.  There is basically no development to the characters, so they are just sort of there.  Many of the robots blend together and I can't tell some of them apart.  Sam is a decent character and he has a little bit of development related to him heading off to college.

I was not impressed with Megan Fox - though I know that male viewers will probably feel differently, especially since she shows up in some very skimpy outfits and even does a bit of a strip tease at one point.

Overall, it is an entertaining mindless action movie, though it could have been better with a stronger story and better camera work.  Fans of the first movie will probably find something to like.  Some people may just be happy to sit and drool over Megan Fox. ;)

I did get a review posted on Epinions if anyone wants to take a look. :)

Fur: An imaginary portrait of Diane Arbus, a review by Eric

Fur: An imaginary portrait of Diane Arbus

Summary: Diane Arbus is an American Photographer whose influence is considerable.  She contributed in imposing the idea of Photography as Art.  The movie is a completely invented tale of what could have been the life of Diane Arbus during a period of her life of which we know nothing.

My Thoughts: It's a very beautiful and artistic movie which I also find poetic in certain ways.  Through a dialogue which is simple only in appearance and nice photography we are invited to live through the process of a series of changes in someone's life that lead to her becoming the artist she was meant to be.  I highly recommend it.

Day Break
Did you ever have a day so bad you couldn't wait to get past it? The kind of day where nothing goes your way and everything turns out wrong. What would happen if you couldn't put this day behind you...literally?

Today, Detective Brett Hopper will be accused of shooting state attorney Alberto Garza. He will offer his rock solid alibi but will realized that he has been framed and will run. Then he will wake up and start the same day all over again. This time he'll do it differently - and will continue to - until he finds out who's framing him, get his gang witness to court to testify and save the lives of his loved ones. Hopper has only one advantage to his favor - he remembers everything he did the "day prior" that didn't work. It's a painful way to learn because he also carries the bruises and battle scars with him from every mistake-filled day.

Daybreak features Taye Diggs (Private Practice, How Stella Got Her Groove Back) as Detective Hopper in this action-packed thriller from director Rob Bowman (The X-Files, Reign of Fire) and writer Paul Zbyszewski (After the Fire). Also co-starring are Moon Bloodgood and Adam Baldwin. Along with all 13 episodes of this program are special features which include interviews with the cast and producers, behind-the-scenes footage and audio commentary from the cast and crew.

Day Break (Pilot)
When Detective Brett Hopper woke up this morning, he thought it was a normal day, a day like any other one, but he soon learns he has been accused of killing Assistant District Attorney Alberto Garza. Even after offering a solid alibi, no one believes him. When he wakes up the next morning, he finds out he is reliving the same day and his loved ones are in danger.

My Thoughts:
This a show I bought blind... I never even heard of it till I decided to order it. It is a short lived TV Series that only lasted 13 episodes (only 6 episodes originally aired before cancellation). But I got it cheap and decided to take a chance on it. I always liked the movie Groundhog Day... so I thought it would be a fairly safe purchase. Going by the pilot episode only it seems to be a pretty good series. I enjoyed it. Though I do have to wonder how much they can do with him for an entire series
