The Shining, a review by Boomstick98

The Shining (1980)

Plot: A family heads to an isolated hotel for the winter where an evil and spiritual presence influences the father into violence, while his psychic son sees horrific forebodings from the past and of the future.

My O: This was the first time I have ever watched this film all the way through. I have seen small clips over the years, but never took the time to sit down and watch the whole thing. WOW, what an amazing movie. The movie lasted 142 minutes, but I didn't take my eyes off it the entire time. The suspense and creepy atmosphere just keeps building and building. I wonderful performance by Jack Nicholson. I truly thought he was going insane. There are a couple of scenes that will leave you thinking "What the heck did I just see". If there are any holdouts that have not seen this movie yet I highly recommend it.

Tom's Random Reviews, a review by Tom

Azumanga Daioh
In Miss Yukari's English class, every day is an adventure.

First off, there's the airhead teacher herself. She may have graduated from high school, but she sure hasn't left. And with the arrival of two transfer students - a ten-year-old prodigy and a space cadet - it's going to be an intersting class! Between handling enormous assignments, dodging murderous volleyballs, and eduring endless rivalries, summer vacation should serve as a welcome break for the weary student - unless your teachers come with you! Getting through three years alive with this motley crew is going to be an adventure!

My thoughts:
As my current avatar is a screenshot from this series, I feel I'll have to make a short review for this great series.
This is a really funny High School comedy series with hilarious characters.
This series covers all three years of a Japanese High School in 26 episodes. After I have seen this anime series, I have read the manga which the series is based upon (my only manga I have read so far, but I am now bidding on the first 26 volumes of Ah My Goddess  ).
The original manga volumes are a collection of 4-panel comic strips. And the anime captures the feel for it successfully. Almost all jokes from the manga are present and have been transferred perfectly to animated form.
This is mainly because they have chosen to do mini-episodes of about 5 minutes length which are cut together to make full 25 minute episodes. If you didn't know this, you may not even notice this, because a common theme is used during such a 25 minute episode.
The same goes for the manga strips. They are essentially one-off strips but are continuing small storylines.

Rating:

You can find a few examples of those 4-panel comic strips here.

Both the anime series and the manga have something quite seldom about them: You can talk and laugh about scenes with other people without having to first tell what happened before that scene.

Here you can find a (in my opinion well-done) fan-made music video using footage from the anime series.
