The Shop Around the Corner, a review by TomTitle: The Shop Around the Corner Year: 1940 Director: Ernst Lubitsch Rating: NR Length: 99 Min. Video: Full Frame 1.33:1 Audio: English: Dolby Digital Mono, French: Dolby Digital Mono Subtitles: English, French, Spanish Stars: Margaret Sullavan James Stewart Frank Morgan Joseph Schildkraut Sara Haden Plot: Tell bickering Budapest gift-shop workers Alfred and Klara that they love each other and they might call you crazy. No lovers can compare to the romantic, secret pen pals each knows only as Dear Friend. What Alfred and Klara don't know, or course, is that they are each other's Dear Friend. In the third of their four luminous screen pairings, Margaret Sullivan and James Stewart star in this valentine to love wrapped in the ribbon of director Ernst Lubitsch's trademark touch: wit instead of buffoonery, sentiment instead of sentimentality, affection instead of attitude. As enchanting as it was yesterday, The Shop Around the Corner was breezily updated to the electronic age when Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan clicked together in You've Got Mail. In any age, your patronage will be cheerfully rewarded. Awards:
Extras: Closed Captioned Featurettes Production Notes Scene Access Trailers My Thoughts: This movie was the inspiration for the remake "You've Got Mail". I enjoy both movies. I think this was the first movie that I ever saw James Stewart in (could be that I saw "It's a Wonderful Life" before this one though). He did a great job here. For anyone enjoying "You've Got Mail" I recommend checking this one out. You will find many familiar scenes here, which found their way into the remake. I can definately see Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan during the restaurant scene, so similar was it.Rating: (From Tom's Random Reviews on March 7th, 2010) The Princess Bride , a review by Tom
Stars: Cary Elwes as Westley Mandy Patinkin as Inigo Montoya Chris Sarandon as Prince Humperdinck Christopher Guest as Count Rugen Wallace Shawn as Vizzini Plot: When the lovely Buttercup is kidnapped by a ghastly gang intent on fermenting an international incident they find they are pursued by the Dread Pirate Roberts who just might be Westley, her one true love. Also after everyone is nasty Prince Humperdinck to whom Buttercup is now betrothed but who seems to care little for her continued survival. The stage is set for swordfights, monsters, and tortures - but will Grandpa be allowed to finish telling the story with all these kissy bits? Awards: Won:

My Thoughts: I was thinking about rewatching the movie after I recently watched Stardust, but never actually came around to it. After Peter Falk's passing I thought it was now the right time to rectify this. This is a great fairy tale movie, with a lot of fun scenes. And Peter Falk's and Fred Savage's scenes with a grandfather telling the story to his grandson, bring just the right amount of variety to it. Peter Falk's character very much reminded me of Columbo. He has the same mannerisms. Video: Full Frame 1.33:1 Audio: English: Dolby Digital Stereo Subtitles: Stars: Plot: All the blood, puke and boobs you love are back for the third and final season of Drawn Together. The dirtiest, deadliest, sexiest, and funkiest Drawn Together season ever features MORE animated blood, MORE animated vomit, and MORE animated nipples. Watch as Captain Hero tortures his 12-year-old self, Ling-Ling gets put into foster care, and Toot finally gets worshipped as the cow she is. It's what happens when cartoon characters stop being real and start being animated. Awards: Closed Captioned Trailers My Thoughts: It has been awhile since I saw the first two seasons, but I remember them being much more fun. It feels like they were doing the same jokes over and over again and were just trying to outgross themselves each time.I enjoyed the Muppet Babies parody though. One of the reasons I didn't really enjoy it is, that Toots gets too much screentime. It is the one character I do not enjoy at all. Her sole purpose seems to be make jokes about her ugly body (which was still somewhat funny in season 1, but now is really tired) and the voice of hers just gets on my nerve.
