A volcanic eruption in the North Atlantic brings to the surface a 65-foot prehistor monster.  Two treasure divers capture the creature and take him to London where he is put on display in a circus.  Little do they realize that the creature is merely an infant and that the creature's mother (all 200-feet of her) will soon be on the way to reclaim its young.

To me, this is a kind of American (or British, to be more accurate) take on the Japanese rubber suit monster movies (such as Godzilla) and they even go so far as to have a youngster who has a special feeling for the destructive creatures.  This is a pretty decent film in that context with lots of destruction.  This DVD came from VCI and the quality is okay but not pristine.  It's a decent print though some night scenes are occasionally a bit hard to make out but overall a pleasant experience.  Interestingly, there is no leading lady in this movie but apart from that I had a good time and the movie, at 76 minutes, moves quickly.

Plot:
Comedy superstar Dan Aykroyd stars as a mild-mannered professor of chivalry and infamous underworld pimp in the hilarious comic romp Doctor Detroit. When Professor Clifford Skridlow (Aykroyd) accidentally gets conned into taking on the persona of "Doctor Detroit," he soon finds himself up to his neck in luscious ladies, the Chicago Mob, and a notorious crime czar called "Mom" (Kate Murtagh). It's comedic chaos all the way as Aykroyd attempts to juggle two very different career paths without losing his life or his mind. From the producers of The Blues Brothers, and co-starring Donna Dixon and Fran Drescher, comes the laugh-out-loud film about a man committed to making the world safe for insanity.

Mostly silly comedy with a few laugh out loud moments. I liked the Southern lawyer bit in the courthouse and the big pimp/whore group dance with James Brown near the end was great too. I think Akyroyd is better when he has one of his comedy brethren from his era to play off like Chevy Chase in Spies Like Us or John Candy in The Great Outdoors. Aykroyd on his own is just a little too vanilla.

Interesting to note that Fran Dreschner was just as annoying long before she became The Nanny.

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles: The Complete First Season marathon, a review by Dragonfire

What He Beheld
Sarah and John's true identities are discovered by a mysterious operative. Comartie's infiltration of the FBI has devastating consequences.

My Thoughts

I really enjoyed this episode and think it worked pretty well as a season finale.  There were still doubts about Cameron and Derek that seem to have all sorts of potential for the second season.  I like that the FBI agent has had to realize that there are some very strange things going on and I think it will be interesting to see how he continues to cope with that.  I loved the birthday present Derek gave John.  It was very touching and also opened up some possibilities for the second season as well that should be interesting. 

Overall I've really enjoyed this series and am glad I decided to pick up the DVD set.  It is a really entertaining show that has added new things to John and Sarah's story while also remaining true to the source material of the first two movies.  Now I want to start on the second season episodes right now.
