Demented Death Farm Massacre, a review by Jimmy

Title : Demented Death Farm Massacre (1972)

Overview
After executing a daring robbery in the big city, a gang of psychotic daimond thieves steal a jeep and head out into the country. When the jeep runs out of gas, they ditch it and wander into what looks like a backwoods farm, the perfect hideout! And even better, there's a country bumpkin with huge udders living there offering the thieves some good ol' fashioned Southern hospitality! Everything is cool as a glass of lemonade, this is, until the babe's seemingly dimwitted husband returns home from a long hard day of shucking corn. Sensing the ill-fated intentions of his freaky farm guests, the farmer must come up with a plan to turn the tables on these dangerous thugs.

My Impression
This one is not really an horror movie, but it's a part of a terror pack and I've not watched this for nothing. So we will stretch the elastic a little bit. My god this film is awfull this is not for nothing if it was release only in 1986 (14 years after it was made :o). The acting is bad, the murder special effects are the worst that I've seen (Shriek of the Mutilated FX are master works compare to this), the story made no sense, John Carradine interupt the film many times to make non sense comment, the farmer looks like Victor French (it's not him but this is funny), one the girl looks really like a transvestite (it's a girl, she have the breast to prove it ). Two things only save this mess of a film : the 20 minutes lame pursuit with an hillbilly banjo music score and Ashley Brooks is enjoyable for the eyes.

Honestly, don't watch this unless you are crazy for everything with banjo music.

Run Lola Run, a review by Danae Cassandra

Where We Are:  Re-Unified Germany (Germany post-1990)
wikipedia

What We Watched:

Lola Rennt (Run Lola Run)
Year of Release: 1998
Directed By: Tom Tykwer
Starring: Franka Potente, Moritz Bleibtreu, Herbert Knaup, Nina Petri
Genre: Suspense/Thriller, Action

Overview:
A thrilling post-MTV, roller-coaster ride, RUN LOLA RUN is the internationally acclaimed sensation about two star-crossed lovers who have only minutes to change the course of their lives. Time is running out for Lola (Franka Potente). She's just received a frantic phone call from her boyfriend Manni (Moritz Bleibtreu), who's lost a small fortune belonging to his mobster boss. If Lola doesn't replace the money in twenty minutes, Manni will surely suffer severe consequences. Set to a throbbing techno score, "Lola's like a human stun gun!" - Peter Rainer, New York Magazine.

My Thoughts:
We all know Bugs Bunny should have taken that left turn at Albuquerque.  But what if he had?  Things would have turned out very different.  That's the basic premise, and theme, of Lola Rennt.  What effect do Lola's actions have on the future?  What is the role of chance?  Of luck?  Can you hit the reset button and give it another go?  And what would happen if you could?

It's a fun, fast paced film, done with technical skill and lots of "gimmicks" - animated sequences, speed ups and slow downs, split screen.  I really liked Franka Potente's portrayal of Lola, though I did wonder what she saw in Manni.  You don't really learn a lot about him, about what makes him the guy for her that she is willing to do all this for.  But maybe you don't need to.  It's still a good film.  Recommended.

Bechdel Test:  Fail

Overall: 3.75/5

The One Where It All Began: The Pilot Marathon, a review by DJ Doena

Knight Rider

What's the show about?
Michael Knight works for Foundation for Law And Government. But he doesn't work alone. He has help in form of his car: The Knight Industries Two Thousand, KITT. KITT is a bullet-proof computer on wheels and it helps Michael on his missions to help people who need help.

"Knight of the Phoenix"
Michael Long works undercover until he is shot by the industrial espionage expert Tanya Walker. Luckily he survices the attack but his face is totally destroyed and has to be surgically repaired. After that Michael Long is officially dead and Michael Knight arises. His surgery was conducted by doctors paid by Wilton Knight who also gives him his new identity. Additionaly Wilton's engineers have done something to Michael's car...

My Opinion
Another 80s classic one simply had to watch back then. Oh gosh, I definitvly watched too much TV in the 80s. And the 90s. And now.

BTW: There was a cultural reference in the pilot: When Michael sees KITT's interior for the first time he says that he feels like being in Darth Vader's bathroom!
