Un transport un commun, a review by Danae CassandraANOTHER BONUS SHORT FILM! Where We Are: Senegal wikipedia What We Watched: Un transport un commun (Saint Louis Blues)Overview: Focus' Africa First program is an initiative designed exclusively for filmmakers of African nationality and residence, and presents annual awards to the best and brightest from around the continent. After touring film festivals around the world, these Africa First short films are now available for audiences everywhere: Dyana Gaye's ST. LOUIS BLUES, an invigorating traveling musical; Jenna Bass' THE TUNNEL, a moving story of a young girl in search of her father; Jan-Hendrik Beetge's THE ABYSS BOYS a coming-of-age tale amidst rampant corruption and gang violence; and Wanuri Kahiu's PUMZI a startling vision of the future. My Thoughts: Saint Louis Blues reminded me of community theatre. The atmosphere was fun, the performances earnest but unpolished, the production lacking in any sort of real budget, but an enjoyable, entertaining time nonetheless. It's obvious all the actors are amateurs, but they're having a good time making this little musical and I had a good time watching it over breakfast. This is director Dyana Gaye's fourth short film, and it seems she's currently seeking funding for a full-length feature. While Saint Louis Blues lacks polish and depth when compared to Pumzi, I enjoyed it and Gaye has obvious talent and I wouldn't mind seeing more from her. Bechdel Test: Pass Overall: 3/5 (From Around the World in 86 Movies on February 15th, 2013) Alone in the Dark, a review by JimmyTitle : Alone in the Dark (1982) OverviewMy Impression Damn nuclear power goes and the lunatics had taken over the asylum again, but this time they had taken the city also. This one is a pleasant memory, since I've seen it at the theater (ours was not strict at all, if it was ok with our parents no problem to enter). This one is probably one of the most frightening movie of the eighties (as you already know for me the movie that can happen for real are the scarier) who make you jump almost continuously till the end. Of course the acting is top level... which isn't surprising when you had the great Jack Palance and Martin Landau (who had surprised me at the times since I was knowing him only for Space 1999 and Mission Impossible). The supporting cast is great also with Erland van Lidth (who looks innocent but is really frightening) and Phillip Clark (who had a big surprise for you). Really this one is a strong recommandation if you have never seen it. Surprisingly the next movie of Jack Sholder after this great "Night of the Living Dead feels like films" will be the weak Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2. Finally I love the punk music played by the Sick Fucks (God the eighties music was awesome) Rating : (From Jimmy's 2009 Horror Marathon on October 10th, 2009) The Flash Marathon, a review by addicted2dvdThe Flash Marathon Image: Mutated dog (German Shepard) after being injected with a secret serum. Episode 2 - Out of Control He needs subjects for genetic-engineering research - any volunteers? Tina's former colleague is the main suspect when the bodies of murdered homeless people mysteriously disappear from crime scenes. Guest Stars: Vito D'Ambrosio as Bellows Biff Manard as Murphy Mike Genovese as Lt. Warren Garfield Stan Ivar as Dr. Carl Tanner My Thoughts: A good episode... but not as good as the pilot movie. The transformations were done rather well. They definitely looked cool. Basically the story of a scientist that forgets his ethics while working on experimental gene mutations trying to cure disease. A case of someone doing the wrong thing for good reasons. But ends up getting lost on the way. My Rating: (From The Flash Marathon on April 7th, 2010) |
