Hellboy II, a review by Dragonfire

The fate of mankind hangs in the balance when a ruthless prince awakens an unstoppable army of creatures and wages war with the human world.  It's up to Hellboy and his team of paranormal outcasts to face off with the forces of darkness in the ultimate battle of good versus evil!

My Thoughts

I liked the first movie featuring Hellboy and I liked this one as well.  This movie connected to the first one well while still having a different, unique plot.  Certain things about the characters would make more sense if the movies were watched in order.  I did think that some elements were liked things that Guillerno del Toro used in Pan's Labyrinth.  The fantasy things worked well in Hellboy's world.  The movie was very entertaining, with great special effects, interesting action scenes, and an interesting plot.  There was some humor used here and there throughout the movie as well that I thought worked well.  I know some didn't care for it, but I liked the scene when Hellboy got Abe to drink beer and they started singing along to a Barry Manilow song.  People who liked the first movie should give this one a chance.

Destination Moon, a review by addicted2dvd

Destination Moon
ndustrialist John Archer, former general Tom Powers and research scientist Warner Anderson collaborate on a manned rocketship with an atomic engine, convinced that the nation that militarily controls the Moon controls the Earth as well. But as their work crews construct the spaceship "Luna" in the Mohave Desert, insidious foreign-inspired propaganda turns the tide of public opinion against them. Realizing that the project's enemies can use the law to halt the launch, Archer, Powers, Anderson and electronics technician Dick Wesson decide to make a hasty pre-dawn liftoff in the untested rocket - DESTINATION MOON!

Years before the first U.S. satelittes were launched, and nearly two decades before man first set foot on the lunar surface, George Pal's DESTINATION MOON depicted these future events with a high degreeof technical accuracy - and opened the floodgates of '50's science fiction.

Stars:
John Archer
Warner Anderson
Tom Powers
Dick Wesson

My Thoughts:
This is one of the DVD that our good friend Roger sent me. I never even heard of it before he told me he was sending it. It's not a bad movie... but it is a little on the slow side for my taste. Some of the scenes were entertaining though. While the special effects on this one is definitely dated... I did get a kick out of most of them. And the movie does pick up a bit towards the end. So while this is far from a great movie... it does have some entertainment value.

My Rating:
Out of a Possible 5

The One Where It All Began: The Pilot Marathon, a review by DJ Doena

Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman

What's the show about?
Clark Kent is one of the best reporters at the world-famous "Daily Planet" newspaper. But when the need arises he embraces his Kryptonian heritage and becomes the Man of Steel: Superman. And she is always at his side: Lois Lane, star reporter, working with the one man and falling in love with the other.

What happened before?
From the POV of the show, nothing has happened before. Lois, Clark, Jimmy and Lex all meet for the first time here. Superman appears for the first time here.

"Pilot"
Clark Kent has just come to Metropolis, but he doesn't get the job at the "Daily Planet" that he had hoped for. And Lois Lane is futily trying to get a one-on-one interview with the famous billionaire Lex Luthor. But Clark can be very convincing and when he gets the job he incidentally opens the door for Lois to get close to Lex.

My Opinion
While the effects may be outdated, the chemistry between Clark/Superman and Lois is still great. Both actors embodied their famous characters with a lot of charm and transported one of the oldest super heroes forward into the nineties. When it comes to Lois I am undecided whether I like Teri Hatcher or Erica Durance (Smallville) better but Dean Cain clearly wins over Smallville's Tom Welling. It's not Tom's fault actually because even after 8 years the writers are still make him angsty of everything. Dean's Clark is a self-assured man and I hope Tom's Clark will become one, too.
