Blast from the Past, a review by DJ DoenaJanuary, 3rd Brendan Fraser ... Adam Alicia Silverstone ... Eve Christopher Walken ... Calvin Sissy Spacek ... Helen Dave Foley ... Troy Nathan Fillion ... Cliff Synopsis: During the cuba crisis Calvin Webber a rich but eccentric (doesn't this always come in the same package?) inventor locks himself and his pregnant wife in a fallout shelter because he thinks a nuclear war has broken out. They live there for 35 years with their son Adam until one day the locks unseal themselves. Now Adam goes out to buy supplies in huge numbers and he's looking for a wife - no mutant and from Pasadena, if possible. But then he meets Eve. My Opinion: I love this movie. It's so great to see Adam and his seemingly outdated manners to win Eve's heart (and the heart of nearly any woman in that movie for that matter). I have to admit I love romantic movies, the number of such movies in my collection is nearly twice as big as my science fiction movies. I can watch them until I'm totally overdosed. Too bad that Alicia Silverstone isn't seen more often on screen. I can't describe it but she has something about her that I totally like. (From DJ Doena's movie watchings 2009 on January 4th, 2009) Superbad, a review by TomTitle: Superbad Year: 2007 Director: Greg Mottola Rating: 15 Length: 118 Min. Video: Widescreen 1.85 Audio: English: Dolby Digital TrueHD, Italian: Dolby Digital TrueHD, Czech: Dolby Digital 5.1, Hungarian: Dolby Digital 5.1, Polish: Dolby Digital 5.1, Russian: Dolby Digital 5.1 Subtitles: Arabic, Bulgarian, Croatian, Czech, Danish, English, Finnish, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Hungarian, Icelandic, Italian, Norwegian, Other, Polish, Romanian, Swedish, Turkish Stars: Jonah Hill Michael Cera Christopher Mintz-Plasse Bill Hader Seth Rogen Plot: From the guys who brought you Knocked Up and The 40-Year-Old Virgin comes SUPERBAD. Seth (Jonah Hill) and Evan (Michael Cera) want nothing more than to hook up with the girls they like before heading off to college. To do that, though, they need to get alcohol for the big party that night. With the help of their friend Fogell, a.k.a. McLovin (Christopher Mintz-Plasse), and his fake I.D., the three of them go on a chase for that elusive booze, dodging incompetent cops (Knocked Up Seth Rogen and "Saturday Night Live's" Bill Hader) while attempting to reverse a lifelong losing streak in one hilarious night. Extras: Commentary Deleted Scenes Featurettes Interactive Game Outtakes Scene Access My Thoughts: I expected more of this movie. But it was rather dull. There were a few funny scenes, but in general the movie was very uneven. One of the cops (Officer Slater played by Bill Hader) reminded me very much of Moss from the IT Crowd. Stars: Jon Lovitz as Jay Prescott Sherman/Woody Allen/Himself (voice) Nancy Cartwright as Margo Sherman (voice) Christine Cavanaugh as Marty Sherman (voice) Gerrit Graham as Franklin Sherman (voice) Judith Ivey as Eleanor Sherman (voice) Plot: From the producers of "The Simpsons" comes this hilarious animated sitcom about Jay, a New York movie critic and cable television host. Pudgy and balding, Jay is not a well-liked man. His unsympathetic boss makes his life miserable, his ex-wife hates him, his adoptive parents barely tolerate him, and even the makeup lady treats him with disgust. Fortunately for Jay, he has his 11-year-old son Marty and one very unlikely friend, Jeremy Hawke, the Australian film hunk. Jon Lovitz provides Jay's distinctive voice as a single father who searches for happiness while satirizing life and the movies in this irreverent comedy. The Critic 1.01 Pilot Not really funny. At least the pilot episode. I don't remember much about the rest, only that it was not memorable. Rating: (From Tom's TV Pilots marathon on April 2nd, 2011) |
